-In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and
experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent
training and experience. The work of a Motor Vehicle Mechanic involves the
following:
-Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of automobiles, busses, trucks,
tractors, refueling vehicles, military vehicles, LSV/OGMVC's, material handling
equipment and special purpose equipment.
-Inspects vehicles and equipment to determine the repairs required for the vehicle
or equipment to meet the established serviceability standards.
-Performs incoming inspections, outgoing inspections, Limited Technical
Inspections, accident and abuse estimates in accordance with established
standards.
-Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required.
-Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine
parts.
-Grinding and adjusting valves. Rebuilding carburetors. Overhauling
transmissions.
-Repairing fuel injection, lighting and ignition systems.
-Maintains tools, equipment, and cleans work areas. Practices good housekeeping,
tool control, FOD prevention and safety at all times.
-Must use proper customer service etiquette.
-Performs other associated duties as assigned.
-Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
-Must possess or be able to obtain a Secure Area badge and be flight line qualified.
(Where applicable).
-Must possess or be able to obtain National Agency Check (NAC).
-Motor Vehicle Mechanic(s) assigned to work "Minor Maintenance" shall also:
-Inspect all vehicles and equipment entering the shop for maintenance; debrief
operators and record discrepancies that may be found in accordance with
established standards.
-Forward all identified discrepancies to VM &A for assignment to the appropriate
repair function.
-Perform minor maintenance in accordance with established standards.
