The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking an Accounting Associate to provide business transaction processing as part of the hospital's Business Service Center.

Major Duties and Responsiblities

Financial:

  • Reconciles hospital clearing account to Banner to ensure all transactions are being captured.
  • Processes and posts payments in General Accounts Receivable.
  • Responsible for identifying the correct account, scanning and uploading the justification paperwork into hospital tracking system for adjustments to client accounts.
  • Prepares TEM vouchers to provide refunds to clients for overpayments
  • Process donations through UIF.
Collection:
  • Research account problems and recommends needed course of action for resolution of individual cases.
  • Reconciles client accounts in health information system to ensure a zero balance.
  • Prepares invoices and statements to clients for outstanding balances.
  • Follows up on any delinquent client accounts, as determined and provided by the VTH administration and campus receivables.
  • Works with the campus general accounts receivables office and campus collection office to coordinate collection on behalf of VTH.
  • Facilitates and oversees collection operations and services including developing new policies and procedures to promote the overall proficiency of daily operations and the success of collection efforts under the direction of the Assistant Hospital Director of Finance.
  • Acts as liaison to all clients regarding billings from the VTH.
Supervisory:
  • Manage and oversee Cashier III positions.
Miscellaneous:
  • Checks and distributes mail for the business office.
  • Performs other office duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field and two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
OR
  • Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).
OR
  • Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.

Successful candidates will also possess
  • Thorough knowledge of University and College fiscal and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of University electronic forms such as sales invoices and cash receipts and the corresponding procedures for processing.
  • Working knowledge of PCs, software packages, and University systems used by the Business Service Center.
  • Ability to compile financial records, spreadsheets and prepare routine financial reports or statements.
  • Ability to gather facts and apply this knowledge tosolve complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
  • Requires accuracy and consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people and personalities, both in face-to-face and telephone contacts.
  • Ability to remain calm and productive in a busy work environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Knowledge of customer service (the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction)
  • Understanding of University policies and procedures.
  • Firm sense of responsibility and good attendance.

Salary and Appointment Information
This is a full-time, Civil Service Accounting Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible following the conclusion of the search. Salary is commensurate with experience.
