GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Anesthesia Supply/Technical Support and the Physician Director of Anesthesia Engineering, Technical Support and Supply responsible for maintaining Anesthesia machinery, equipment and inventory. Performs first-level repairs and troubleshoots Anesthesia equipment, assists, as appropriate, Anesthesia clinical staff with patient care and provides for a safe, orderly and clean OR environment. The Anesthesia Technician serves as a source of technical and functional expertise for all operating room locations and must demonstrate the ability to work independently with little supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, servicing and restocking of Anesthesia machines and equipment.Transports medications (excluding narcotics) at the request of Anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs and nurses.Troubleshoots and performs first-level repairs of Anesthesia machines and equipmentSets up rapid infuser (Belmont)Maintains stock levels in work and induction rooms and on Anesthesia carts including transport and handling of IV solutions.Delivers defective equipment to Bio-Medical Engineering.Maintains and services Anesthesia oxygen and gas cylinders and regulators.Provides support for training and education of the Anesthesia technician team.Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Manager, Anesthesia Supply/Technical Support and Lead Technicians and are able to respond appropriately to emergency situations.Ability to function independently with little or no supervisionSKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Complexity requirements:Must possess exceptional organizational skills and flexibility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must demonstrate acumen for attention to detail. Must exercise appropriate judgment as necessary and possess strong problem-solving skills.Interpersonal requirements:Requires strong interpersonal skills. Must possess ability to work in a hospital environment closely with and effectively with a variety of professional staff (e.g., physicians and nurses). Must work cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
Technical requirements:Demonstrates knowledge of basic patient care principles. Has knowledge of HIPAA, Confidentiality and Privacy Policies. Required to understand and demonstrate understanding of MGH emergency protocols.
Environmental requirements:Fast paced, high volume operating rooms. High stress working conditions including shifting priorities, tight schedules. Exposure to blood and secretions on contaminated equipment, needles, medications and patients with undiagnosed diseases.
Physical requirements:Must be able to remain on feet and for extended periods of time. Must be able to push and pull heavy equipment and lift up to fifty pounds.

Qualifications EXPERIENCE:
At least 3-5 Years of Anesthesia Tech expereince preferred
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):
American Society of Anesthesia Technicians / Technologists (ASATT) certification preferred; Basic Life Support certification required within six months of employment
EDUCATION:
High school diploma required. Associate degree preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required.
