The Department of Crop Sciences is where agronomy, plant pathology, horticulture, soil science, plant genetics, biotechnology, business, data science, and sustainability join together through results-oriented faculty and students.

The Department of Crop Sciences and the College of Consumer, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (ACES) offer world-class laboratory, greenhouse, and field research facilities. In addition, the University of Illinois is also home to the Plant Biology and Microbiology departments. Nearby campus research farms offer 3,600 acres of active agricultural landscapes. Off-campus research farms offer the opportunity to collect data across diverse environments. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive community of world-class life and computer sciences as well as engineering programs at the University of Illinois where our internationally-recognized faculty partner with the private sector to enhance education and training opportunities on a diversity of crops.

We invite outstanding scientists to apply for this position, which merges applied research with scientific communication in plant pathology to sustainably improve field crop disease management in Illinois and the surrounding region. We are seeking candidates with a proven ability to use innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to conduct high-impact applied research and extension in field crop plant pathology. The successful candidate will have demonstrated interest and experience in scientific communication, and will be expected to develop an Extension program that engages with and informs stakeholders in the ~22 million acres of corn, soybean, and small grains produced in Illinois each year. The incumbent will also be expected to make contributions in plant pathology instruction important to our undergraduate and graduate degree programs through traditional and/or non-traditional instruction, graduate student mentorship, and advisory committee service.

We seek candidates who will strengthen our efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity initiatives and who will contribute to programs that seek to increase participation from traditionally underrepresented groups in agricultural research and STEAM. A Ph.D. in plant pathology, crop sciences, or a related discipline is required. Post-doctoral experience is desired. Applicants at the Associate or Full Professor levels must have qualifications sufficient to meet the requirements for those ranks in the Department of Crop Sciences at UIUC. All applicants should possess a strong publication record in plant pathology, provide evidence of capacity to provide significant leadership in research and educational programs, and have the ability to secure external competitive funding. Evidence of research and teaching impact is relevant to all applicants. The successful applicant must also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communications skills, the ability to collaborate, and the willingness to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and the public in Illinois and worldwide.

This is a 9-month, 100% time academic, tenure or tenure-track position with the opportunity for summer appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The position is available as soon as possible after the closing date.
