Primary Purpose of Department:

The mission of the Athletic Department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is to operate within the perspective of the overall educational programs. With a balanced program that supports equitable opportunities for all students and staff, the department promotes a total person concept that provides its student-athletes with the necessary tools to successful in academic, athletic and social settings. The Department of Athletic supports the highest ethical standards of the University, the NCAA and the AAc.

Primary Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for interpreting NCAA rules and regulations and ensuring the UNC Charlotte remains in compliance with those rules.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

  • Collect, review, and report data on a wide variety of financial aid responsibilities including, but not limited to: entering awards from academic year workflows and summer financial aid spreadsheets; assisting in the university audit of financial aid;
  • Monitoring scholarship equivalencies for the academic year; monitoring outstanding balances owed by student-athletes; ensuring students do not exceed their cost of attendance; and related financial aid adjustments.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Deputy Athletic Director/CFO and institutional Scholarship Office.
  • Investigate potential secondary rules violations; research penalties in similar cases; and submit infraction reports to the NCAA.
  • Work with coaches and Athletics Academic Center staff to ensure certification of NCAA Initial Eligibility.
  • Assist in certification process for continuing eligibility ; correspond with the institutional Registrar's office ; meet with student-athletes regarding any and all compliance and eligibility issues; and file necessary medical waivers (hardship and absence and others as needed).
  • Transfer Eligibility - assist student-athletes planning to transfer to other institutions.
  • Responsible for gathering data for and submitting the NCAA APR and GSR reports, and assisting the Associate Athletics Director with all other NCAA reports.
  • Responsible for creating a compliance presence and being the point of contact with specific teams.
  • Responsible for responding to all interpretive questions regarding all NCAA bylaws.
  • Other duties as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and
  • Two years of compliance work in a Division 1 school
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Masters
  • Knowledge of financial aid policy and procedures and NCAA eligibility process and legislation preferred.
  • Experience with ARMS software.
  • Experience with NCAA applications such as LSDBi & RSRO.
