SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Assistant Controller for the corporate office in Anchorage, AK.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for corporation's financials according to GAAP.
  • Publish monthly and yearly financial statements and other management reports as needed.
  • Participate in audit preparation including draft financials and footnotes.
  • Analyze corporate monthly operating results against budget. Assist in preparing annual budgets as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and approval of revenue formula for project set up.
  • Responsible for oversight of all aspects of general ledger accounting, including review of monthly journal entries, monthly reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers,
  • Review and approve accruals and reconciling entries prepared by lower-level staff for entry into the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries to balance retirement plans and intercompany transactions.
  • Monitor compliance with FAR regulations, specifically for allocability, allowability and allocation of indirect rates or charges to subsidiaries.
  • Prepares financial information as required for compliance reporting to various government agencies including ICE reports and SBA annual reporting.
  • Work directly with DCAA Auditors for routine questions and reports as needed.
  • Assist with annual insurance renewal and audits. Prepare subsidiary workbook for allocation.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities within the Corporation.
  • Prepares financial analysis for project management.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities assigned.
  • This position will directly supervise lower-level accounting staff(s).
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Four years related experience which includes two years of diversified accounting experience including project, government contracting for multi-company accounting.
  • CPA designation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Consolidations and Joint Venture accounting
  • Deltek Costpoint accounting system experience in a multi-company environment.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Working experience with an ANC is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Knowledge of FAR and government accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Skills in the efficient use of Excel including pivot tables and other functions for analysis.
  • Skills in the use of computerized accounting systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines while multi-tasking.
  • Must be able to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize and accomplish your work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervisory responsibilities over two junior level accounting personnel.
  • Set up training schedule to assist personnel to meet their goals.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity.
