The AD serves as the primary manager of and ambassador for national service programs, community-based internships, and post-graduate service opportunities. They manage the recruitment, selection, training, grant reporting, and operations for both AmeriCorps*VISTA and Public Health AmeriCorps.Job Description

Essential Functions:

Program and Grant Management

  • Serves as Program Director for both an AmeriCorps*VISTA project and a Public Health AmeriCorps program based at Wake Forest University.
  • Recruits, selects, and trains full-time VISTA members, Summer Associate/Summer Nonprofit Immersion Program (SNIP) interns, Public Health Corps Members, and other national service programs.
  • Coordinates Request for Proposal (RFP) process to select community host sites for all national service programs and the SNIP.
  • Manages retention of national service members and serves as liaison between OCCE and community host sites.
  • Develop and manage internal systems to coordinate member files, reporting forms, time sheets, and background check processes for national service members.
  • Oversees application processes for national service grants.
  • Serves as project manager and point of contact for national service programs, ensuring compliance with state and national guidelines.
  • Updates member policies and procedures, service agreements, and handbooks.
  • Facilitates partnerships with community-based organizations in the areas of K-12 education, public health, food security and nutrition, and economic development in Winston-Salem, NC.
  • Supports Director of Community Partnerships and Experiential Learning with ACE Fellows program.
  • Promote engagement with GivePulse platform with both students and community partners.

Training and Education

  • Designs and facilitates onboarding, orientation, training, and monthly professional development sessions for all national service members and SNIP interns.
  • Designs and implements onboarding, orientation, and training for community host site supervisors.
  • Conducts informational sessions about national service programs and attends recruiting events in the broader community.
  • Coordinates Nonprofit Careers Week in partnership with the Office of Personal and Career Development.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Conducts site visits and program evaluations for all national service programs.
  • Manages member reporting, including submission of time sheets, quarterly and annual reports, and service highlights.
  • Develops tools to track and measure performance indicators for national service programs.
  • Prepares and submits project reports to the Corporation for National Service and certifies projects on a timely basis.
  • Makes data-driven decisions to develop and improve national service programs.
  • Writes articles, briefs, annual reports, etc. to share the impact of national service programs.

OCCE Teamwork

  • Represents the OCCE at community and university functions.
  • Participates in OCCE activities, meetings, and committees.
  • Supervises AmeriCorps*VISTA members, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master's degree, preferably in Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Higher Education, or related field, and 2-3 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Outstanding administrative skills, including organizational planning and development.
  • Progressive experience related to program management and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of national service programs.
  • Ability to independently plan, manage and meet competing deadlines for multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well with multiple constituencies including faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community representatives.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and skilled at balancing multiple tasks and works well under pressure.
  • Experience in developing community-university partnerships.
  • Ability to supervise others.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Direct experience with AmeriCorps or similar federal grant program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work primarily involves sitting/standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
