Title: Assistant Director of Financial Aid

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Financial Aid with the overall management of financial aid processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Processes Federal Pell Grant payment authorizations via Electronic Data Exchange with the Department of Education. Cross trains with Loan Coordinator and Director in regard to the Electronic Data Exchange process with the Department of Education and Banner related tables and programs. Performs monthly reconciliation of Pell funds, in coordination with the College's finance department.

Provides financial aid counseling to students and processes student financial aid files in accordance with federal and state regulations. Conducts financial aid workshops. Utilizes professional judgement with regard to use of current year income and dependency overrides. Monitors verification of initial engagement and tracks unofficial withdrawals as related to Title IV eligibility. Completes Federal Return to Title IV Funds calculations for Title IV recipients who totally withdraw from the College, either officially or unofficially. Monitors special deferments. Supervises all Financial Aid Counselors. Serves as acting director in the absence of the Director of Financial Aid.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a financial aid office or at least one (1) year of experience in a financial aid office with sufficient NASFAA credentials to demonstrate required knowledge

Experience with federal EDE software processing websites, such as COD, FAA Access, NSLDS and other financial aid related software

Experience with Return to Title IV (R2T4) or proof of passed NASFAA credential in R2T4

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, counseling or computer related field

NASFAA credentials

Experience using the Financial Aid module in Banner

Experience processing financial aid files

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate with a diverse group of students and parents regarding financial aid.  Must be detail oriented, organized and maintain a high degree of accuracy.  Knowledge of state, federal and institutional financial aid regulations.  Ability to review, interpret and make professional judgments on complex issues while staying compliant with federal and state regulations.  Critical thinking skills to identify underlying principles, motivations, reasons or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts. Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills necessary to complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Rate of Pay: $45,496 to $56,870 annually, depending on experience
