Southwestern University, located in Georgetown, has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director of University Events. This position schedules, coordinates, implements and manages University events sponsored by University Relations, as well as other divisions of the University at large. This is an in-person, full-time, twelve-month, exempt position with full benefits who reports to the Director of University Events.

Primary Duties:

  • Coordinate and implement University events on and off campus as assigned. (Some responsibilities include attending meetings for various events as well as departmental meetings, preparing financial worksheets for events, offering creative design ideas, and working with internal/external constituents.)
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising summer camp assistants. Plan, implement and oversee the daily logistics of summer camps.
  • Negotiate contracts and develop on-going working relationships with outside vendors.
  • Back-up to the Functional Administrator for Series 25 (Scheduling System).
  • Assist with other University Relations efforts as needed.
  • Assist with other University Relations efforts as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of relevant experience, including event planning.
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Possess independence, integrity, and an affable nature.
  • Demonstrate professional attitude and team spirit.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, including a strong work ethic. Willingness to adhere to the University's core values. Possess excellent interaction and communication skills (verbal and written). Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community. Demonstrate professional manner with all internal and external University constituencies. Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product. Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations. Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation. Understanding and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty.
  • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
  • Ability and willingness to do occasional evening and weekend work.

Preferred Position Requirements:

  • Three or more years of experience in related position.
  • Experience working in an educational institution with event planning.
