Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

• Lead and manage the testing of superconducting coils including development and maintenance of LabVIEW programs for the collection of test data, setting up and maintaining the test facility, assisting on developing test plans, analyzing test data and preparing the collected test data for distribution and discussion, maintaining the organization of the test data over the entire coil test program, performing materials, component and superconducting magnet testing, troubleshooting test methods and setup and researching similar tests to benchmark results.
• Maintaining quality assurance of the test coil installation and data acquisition systems, ensuring that all laboratory safety protocols are established and followed, and participating in daily group meetings to discuss the latest progress, plans and other project issues.

Qualifications

Master of Science or higher degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or other relevant engineering and physical sciences fields with 2+ years of relevant experiences. The candidate should have solid knowledge of superconducting fundamentals, thermal physics, cryogenic testing and data acquisition with LabView. Experience in design and experimental operations, as well as hands-on experience with mechanical hardware and electrical instrumentation are expected. Working experience with superconducting magnet test coils is preferred. Familiarity with cryogens, 3D mechanical design, finite element analysis, comsol and LabVIEW programming is also preferred.
