The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Adult Acute Care Unit (2JCP) to provide leadership and management of the nursing team. The Adult Acute Care Unit is part of UIHC's Medical Surgical Services (MSS) division.
2JCP is a 30-bed, private room adult medical surgical unit. Unit staff provides care for patients who experience specialized surgeries and the family medicine population. The specialized surgeries include: otolaryngology, plastic reconstructive surgery, oral surgery, and opthamology.
This unit is a dynamic and fast paced environment rich with opportunities for learning. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between physicians, nursing staff, therapy staff, social work and a variety of other consulting disciplines to provide the most comprehensive care for our patients.
In this role, the Assistant Nurse Manager will assist in delivering safe, quality, family-centered patient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support members of the nursing team by providing patient care during up to 50% of hours worked. Other tasks include but are not limited to, assisting with staff onboarding/education, ELMS scheduling/payroll, completing audits, coaching/accountability discussions, shared on-call with Assistant Manager and Nurse Manager, and assisting the unit with ongoing Joint Commission readiness.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 40 hours per week, Primarily Monday - Friday, Evening/Nights, Flexible hours: 0700 - 1530, or 1500 - 2330, or 2300 - 0730, or 4 10-hour shifts
Rotations: Rotating call, weekends/nights/holidays as needed per leadership responsibility.

Education Required:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required
Certifications:
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
Required Qualifications:
1+ years of nursing experience with demonstrated skills in leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs)
Demonstrates time management, organization of workload, delegation, and attention to detail
Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments
Demonstrates effective teaching skills for staff and patient education
Demonstrates appreciation for diversity with an understanding of the benefits of a diverse workforce
Desirable Qualifications:
Clinical experience with patients
Knowledge of UIHC policies, procedures and regulations
Experience working in large academic medical center
Experience working in a union environment
