UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Assistant Professor, Position #'s 00014704 & 00016431

The Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Epigenetics Working Group (EWG) at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences are recruiting two highly motivated individuals for full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad area of epigenetics including, but not limited to chromatin biology, DNA methylation, regulatory RNA, or epigenomics/ epitranscriptomics in development and/or disease. 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. at the time of application and demonstrate a strong research record of scholarly achievements including excellent publications. Preference will be given to individuals who can bring skills or approaches complementary to current investigators in the EWG. Examples include, but are not limited to, unique experimental systems, animal models, or a strong background in combining computational methods and high-throughput sequencing to study the epigenetics of development and disease. The newly hired faculty members will be expected to join the EWG, supported by cutting-edge resources including bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, and imaging core facilities.

Candidates should have a strong record of mentoring appropriate to their career stage and will be expected to contribute to the overall mission of the EWG, the Department, the School, and the University of North Dakota. In addition to developing independently funded and internationally recognized research programs, the successful candidates will advise and interact with undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, participate in the service and teaching missions of the Department, School, and University, and actively collaborate with the EWG. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop an independent, extramurally funded research program complementing the current strengths in the Department including Epigenomics of disease and development.
  • Establish interdisciplinary collaborations with other faculty members in the Department, SMHS, and UND.
  • Actively seek grant funding from external agencies for individual and collaborative projects.
  • Maintain a productive extramurally funded research program commensurate with rank.
  • Teach medical students in a nationally recognized patient-centered learning medical school curriculum.
  • Teach and advise graduate students in the Department’s integrated biomedical sciences graduate program that offers M.S., Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. degrees.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of curriculum for the M.S., Ph.D., and M.D. programs.
  • Actively participate in the service missions of the Department, the SMHS, UND, and their profession.
  • Contribute to written progress reports and other documents as needed by the Department and EWG.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication.
 Minimum Requirements
  • Must have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D.
  • Minimum 3 years post-doctoral experience.
  • Minimum of 1 first or senior author peer reviewed journal publication within the last 5 years.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise that complements current strengths in the Department in the area of epigenetics and epigenomics
  • Expertise with unique model systems and/or technologies
  • Strong publication record as evidenced by CV.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

Position: Assistant Professor
Renumeration/Salary: $85,000+/year commensurate with qualifications
