The Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level with expertise in the area of adult neurogenic disorders. We seek a strong researcher who can contribute to our lifespan mission of advancing the health and well-being of individuals, and families of individuals, with communication disorders. Appointment time by January 2024.

The Department of Communicative Disorders is located within the College of Health Sciences, which has an interdisciplinary PhD program in Health Sciences. CMD currently has 55 graduate students and 250 undergraduate majors. The program received initial ASHA accreditation in 1985 and is currently accredited through 2029. The URI Speech and Hearing Center is located in the department and provides comprehensive services to the Rhode Island community, as well as serving as a clinical training site for our students.

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the principal public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston and is close to the ocean and major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. The campus is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston and New York City.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop a competitive research program that includes high impact publications and external funding to support research and graduate students. Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the area of adult neurogenic communication disorders (e.g., Motor Speech Disorders, Dysphagia, Voice, Acquired Cognitive Disorders). Participate in service-related activities that support the mission of the department, college, university, and profession.
