The Department of History at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in East Asian History to commence in August 2023. Successful candidates will have both an active research agenda and a strong record of teaching experience in the field of East Asian History. Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach introductory-level survey course in East Asian History and established upper-level courses in Modern China & Modern Japan. Develop topical courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels that reflect the candidate's specific focus within the field. We are particularly interested in scholars who can complement the department's coverage of race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, religion, archaeology and/or the environment. Establish and maintain a consistent research program and pursue funding opportunities as appropriate. Contribute to the history department's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Contribute to the service needs of the department and university as appropriate.
