Assistant Professor of Law Enforcement

Full-time, Tenure Track

On Campus

Expected start July 2022

Teach courses related to law enforcement and criminology, including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Minnesota Statutes, Criminal Procedures, and Crime Scene Investigation. A normal teaching load is 4 courses per each regular term (fall/spring). Qualified candidates may have the additional responsibility of overseeing campus Safety and Security.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Advise Law Enforcement students within the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Recruit new students to pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement
  • Stay abreast of scholarly developments in law enforcement and criminology as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment
  • Review related curricula and recommend modifications as appropriate Contribute to the field of law enforcement and/or the profession of college-level teaching
  • Engage in general faculty responsibilities that include: Participation in department and faculty meetings, Care of students, Crown College committee assignments, and at least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students

If selected to oversee campus Safety and Security:

  • Advise administration on best practices and necessary equipment to ensure a safe and secure campus environment Coordinate with campus departments on issues of campus safety Enlist
  • Train and supervise student workers for campus Safety and Security Serve as the institutions Title IX coordinator
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and first responders to foster clear communication and to facilitate their involvement on campus as beneficial or necessary
  • Assist in the completion of incident reports
  • The annual Security Report Candidates selected for this role will receive 1- to 2-course releases per semester REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Relevant experience in the field of law enforcement
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching courses at the college level
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding education
  • Established ability to work effectively as a team member Demonstrated excellence in spoken, written and electronic communication skills
  • Ability to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith
  • Experience evaluating student's work and reporting results promptly
  • Agreement and personal alignment with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's level degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in law enforcement, criminology, or a related field
  • 5+ years recent law enforcement experience
  • Successful teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):

  • A PhD in law enforcement, criminology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education
  • Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments
  • Experience with advising
