The position will begin Fall 2023, and is contingent upon the availability of funds. A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field is required. The new faculty member will be expected to: carry out a vigorous, externally-funded research program with a primary emphasis on physics education research for undergraduate and graduate projects, advise students, and participate fully in the teaching program of the department.
We have developed a unique, completely online MS program in physics for in-service high school physics teachers and are in the process of building up our undergraduate physics teacher education program. Two members of our faculty are PhysTEC fellows. The successful applicant will be involved in the continued development and expansion of these programs.
Our department and university are dedicated to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment. We especially welcome applicants from groups traditionally underrepresented in Physics and Astronomy. This includes, but is not limited to, women, racial and ethnic underrepresented minorities, and LGBTQIA individuals as well as those residing at the intersection of these axes. The department of physics and astronomy is actively involved in furthering these causes through the APS bridge program, the national mentoring community, and through the recent creation of a women in physics group and the employment of inclusive pedagogical practices and classroom environments.
