Job Title: Associate Director - Engineering & Maintenance (SHC) for EMCOR at Stanford Health Care

Job Summary: EMCOR Facilities Services (EFS) has an immediate need for an Associate Director - Engineering & Maintenance in Menlo Park, CA.

The Associate Director of Engineering and Maintenance is responsible for all facility services activities within a department and oversees the engineering & maintenance service lines. This includes design, development, and testing. Implements and maintains overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Confronts and solves performance / operational issues to improve development efficiency. Leads and develops the engineering team. This position plans, sequences and drives cross-functional operations change, communication, mitigation, and training programs; serves as a key liaison and driver of strategic and annual planning activities, such as the A3; and represents the department in VP / enterprise-wide meetings and projects. Analyzes, tracks, and coordinates key metrics and identifies/drives benchmarks. Resolves escalated issues arising from operations beyond that of ability of maintenance department. Includes identifying, prioritizing, planning and driving operational activities and assisting the Director in tracking/responding to enterprise-wide projects that impact the department. May oversee / manage operations as assigned.

Engineering

  • Analyze statistics and read / write reports
  • Manage vendors
  • Produce scoping studies and conduct RFPs
  • Develop and manage the 10 year capital plan
  • Commission construction projects
  • Perform design reviews as owner representative
  • Develop/update organization standards
  • Interface with departments on regulatory compliance
  • Act in an advisory role to business unit staff and leaders
  • Develops and implements standards within engineering department to ensure regulatory / licensure compliance.
  • Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures
  • Manage design engineering services as owner's representative
Operational Plans
  • Implement and manage department operational plans. Examples would be quarterly business reviews and monthly metric reviews.
  • Manage quality assurance / performance metrics and programs. Monitor performance of the department based on these metrics and programs .
  • Interface with departments and business partners on budget development, benchmarking and staff planning.
  • Facilitate process improvement work groups, develop standard work that implements performance improvement for the department and business partners.
  • Monitor maintenance vendor contract compliance with contract / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Adjust KPIs as required
Strategic Planning
  • Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity
  • Interface effectively with all levels of internal stakeholders, from C-suite to front line staff.
  • Manage business unit goal setting process and develop methods to ensure regular communication and updates
  • Plan and manage change initiatives. Lead or co-lead strategic initiatives and special projects
  • Develop and execute programs that will help more effectively manage and run the business unit
Communication
  • Demonstrate leadership and written communication skills including the ability to make presentations for various audiences using superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Coordinate with support services such as IT, HR, Facility Management, Clinical Operations, and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions
Operations Management
  • Monitors departmental personnel matters with respect to employee training, promotion, discipline, and termination
  • Ensures execution of procedures and standards of work performance for maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and building systems through management of personnel
  • Responsible to ensure staff workers are supervised in a manner compliant within all safety codes
  • Ensures staff work & managed portfolio is compliant with all regulatory codes - develops corrective actions as required
  • Develops and participates in the orientation of new employees and the continuing education of department employees
  • Instructs personnel regarding hazards and safety to ensure safe procedures and safe use of equipment

Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
Experience
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in cross-functional project coordination roles.
  • 5 years experience in design engineering, commissioning, construction project management, asset management or related discipline
License / Certifications
  • Valid drivers license
  • Prefer Professional Engineer licensure

  • Ability to develop and coordinate complex operational plans
  • Abilities to communicate effectively at all organizational levels including C-suite
  • Ability to identify the need for and to pursue interdepartmental process improvement to maximize financial and project outcomes
  • Knowledge of facilities, maintenance, engineering, regulatory standards, capital, and operations standard practices

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is sedentary in nature but requires ability to loco mote throughout the hospital and to related facilities
RISK OF EXPOSURE TO BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS
  • Category/Description: Category III - Tasks that involve NO exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and Category I tasks that are not a condition of employment
