The Public Policy Center (PPC) in the Office of the Vice President for Research at The University of Iowa seeks an Associate Director of Survey, Evaluation and Methodology Services.

This position will have three core expectations: (1) survey research expertise and design consulting, with the person having demonstrated experience and skills in survey methodology, research design modalities, and advanced statistical techniques; (2) research services and project management, with the expectation to lead multi-method research services (e.g., telephone, mail, web), which includes setting project objectives and effectively allocating unit resources; and (3) staff management, strategic planning and communication, which involves the supervision of professional research staff and the expectations of promoting and planning research services for campus researchers and stakeholders.

The PPC is an interdisciplinary research center that contains the Iowa Social Science Research Center (ISRC), a unit dedicated to providing survey, evaluation, and methodology support. The PPC and ISRC are undergoing a transition to grow, innovate, and better serve the social sciences on campus. The Associate Director of Survey, Evaluation and Methodology Services will have the opportunity to help develop and promote the center's already robust research support services.

Schedule: M-F 8 am - 5 pm
Position Status: Professional and Scientific Regular (100%)

About the Public Policy Center

The Public Policy Center (PPC) is an interdisciplinary research center in the Office of the Vice President for Research. We support a large intramural research program and a university-wide research development program, emphasizing, but not limited to, the social sciences. PPC researchers investigate some of the most important problems facing society at the local and national level.

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required
Doctoral degree in the social sciences, educational measurement, data sciences, biostatistics, management sciences, public health is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate experience (typically 1-3 years) of supervising research staff, and managing activities across a work unit.
  • Demonstrate experience (typically 1-3 years) with program, project, or research management.
  • Demonstrate experience (typically 1-3 years) with social science data collection, research design, and analysis including relevant software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R).
  • Demonstrate expertise in social science research support, including emerging survey and statistical methodology.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, with students, staff, faculty and the public sector.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention-to-detail, time management, and organizational skills across multiple, concurrent projects.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrate extensive experience (typically 3-5 years) of supervising research staff, and managing activities across a work unit.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience (typically 3-5 years) with program, project, or research management.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience (typically 3-5 years) with social science data collection, research design, and analysis including relevant software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R).
  • Demonstrate experience with survey research resources, such as CATI systems or Qualtrics.
  • Demonstrate a record of publications and/or secured funding from internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrate ability to ensure transparency and integrity in data collection and management.
  • Demonstrate experience with applying for internal and external funds for research.
