SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for leading an R&D team in planning developing and executing projects within a business unit or across a business unit portfolio. This position will work closely with cross functional partners to identify and prioritize projects that could include new products quality improvements cost optimization and capacity utilization. This person will be accountable for their team's execution of new products cost savings and quality improvements. This person will work with their team to identify project risks and execution of timelines to meet strategic objectives. They will directly interface with cross functional teams including marketing insights operations engineering FSQA and purchasing in identifying prioritizing and executing work. The individual will lead an R&D team and proactively drive the innovation and technology agenda within their Business Unit. They will manage and prioritize workload for their R&D team as well as provide coaching and development for direct reports. This person will assist in developing and building leadership talent and capabilities within their team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage development and execution of projects that meet the business team s annual objectives to deliver growth targets and cost savings measures
• Actively participate in annual strategic planning process with strong technical guidance provided to the business team
• Develop department talent by identifying hiring and coaching to include individual development plans performance reviews and succession plans
• Leverage technical knowledge of food product development and commercialization with a strong drive for results and flawless execution
• Express and facilitate creativity to develop and execute intellectual property initiatives that drive insulated and sustainable technologies
• Work closely with business partners in developing product costs for new products and calculated savings for cost optimized products
• Direct interaction with wide range of internal employees up to VP in order to influence develop and execute business strategies
• Interact with senior level executives of external customers vendors or academia to identify and create new business opportunities
• Manage multi-million-dollar group budget

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

BS MS or PhD in Food Science Meat Science Food Engineering or related field

Experience

• 11 plus years of relevant R&D work experience with BS, MS or PhD
• 20 plus years of relevant experience if no undergrad or graduate degree
• 5 plus years leadership management experience

Computer Skills

• Requires excellent computer skills with ability to fully utilize MS Office products and Tyson systems or like systems

Communication Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Strong presentation skills required

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all functional and management levels including senior leadership

Special Skills

• Proven strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and get work done through others
• Ability to manage team project work along with team management responsibilities
• Contributor to strategic planning for team
• Strong aptitude to work cross functionally and manage a large number of projects simultaneously in a matrix organization
• Strong personal drive proven analytical skills problem solving project management priority setting and teamwork skills
• Broad product knowledge of both internal products as well as competitive set
• Understands and represents the needs of our consumers and customers both internal and external

Supervisory

• 2 plus direct reports from Technician to Principal Scientist

Travel

• Up to 25% travel required
• 12 plus domestic trips per year
