Your role:

EMD Serono is seeking an Associate Scientist to join the Exploratory Immunology team at our Billerica, MA research facility. The Associate Scientist will contribute to the discovery of drugs for treating autoimmune diseases. She/he will drive early drug discovery projects from target discovery and validation to advancing established programs to the clinic.

The Associate Scientist will work in a team of scientists that develops and executes innovative approaches to propose new targets and therapeutic concepts. She/he will design, develop, conduct and troubleshoot cell-based assays based on protocols provided by the literature or other scientists to support target validation and drug discovery efforts. The Associate Scientist will diligently document all research, support preparation of publications for scientific journals and present their research results at internal meetings.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Immunology, Biology or related Scientific discipline with 1+ years' experience in Immunology

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Immunology or related discipline or Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of laboratory experience in Immunology
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Specific knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas are highly desirable:
    • Immune cell isolation from human whole blood/PBMC
    • Tissue culture, especially human primary cell culture and culture of various cell lines
    • Cell-based assays: Transformation/transfection, differentiation, proliferation, FACS
    • Molecular Biology: Protein and DNA/RNA isolation, purification and quantification techniques; antibody labeling, Western blotting/Protein Simple imaging, RT-PCR, QPCR
    • Bioanalytical assays: ELISA, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, or similar assays
    • Cell imaging: confocal, fluorescence imaging and analysis
  • Familiarity with QA/QC, assay development and optimization
  • Capable of performing in depth troubleshooting and research
  • Experience with high-throughput screening, library generation, and automation
  • Proficient with computer software: Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, BD FACS Diva, Flow Jo, MetaXpress, VectorNTI, QuantStudio, Geneious, OpenLab, Compass, LICOR, Hamilton, or other related software
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast paced, cross-functional, flexible and team-oriented environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Ability to learn new techniques quickly and efficiently
  • A deep fascination and interest in exploring new biology
