Novelis is looking for an Automation Engineer.

This position is responsible for handling systems engineering in the areas of automation and computer systems to contribute to the achievement of the Manufacturing Unit's safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction in design, development, implementation, commissioning, and procurement activities associated with computer, automation, and other electronic control equipment
  • Maintenance of existing automated systems
  • Apply mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects having a scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of responsible assignments
  • Apply state-of-the-art technology and techniques to resolve complex engineering problems
  • Perform special study programs involving technical data of a complex nature
  • Support manufacturing by working closely with the Operations, Engineering and Process Groups
  • Interact directly with vendors and consultants
  • Engage in equipment, operator and maintenance training programs
  • Promote external contacts with other operations research groups as necessary
  • Keep up with the ever-changing technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control, process automation and process management systems and methods

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience working in an IT environment organization
  • Experience in supporting the process group and the maintenance group in reliability efforts preferred
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Software skills in software analysis, design, methodology, and architecture
  • Programming experience in software development with Microsoft Visual Studio / Development tools and C# or VB.Net programming
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networks Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in HMI/SCADA systems. Experience with WonderWare HMI systems a plus.
  • Experience with SQL programming and relational databases
  • Experience in building client/server applications
  • Experience in multi-threaded applications development
  • Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration as it pertains to a networked manufacturing environment
  • Ability to develop relationships with employees
  • Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work
