Provide comprehensive support for all associate benefit programs, including ongoing design, analysis and administration.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

The Benefits Consultant may perform some or all of the following to support the day to day management and compliance requirements of the Company's benefit programs.

Administration

  • Lead the administration of various benefit programs such as but not limited to managing the Evidence of Insurability process for Life and LTD benefits.
  • Perform audits of biweekly payroll processing. Work closely with benefits administrator and payroll to ensure exceptions and corrections are processed as needed.
  • Partner with and provide direction to benefits administrator.
  • Trouble-shoot escalated basic to moderately complex benefits issues.
  • Coordinate and/or support annual enrollment process. Assist with HRIS deployment including design and use of self-service enrollment tool and post-enrollment audits.
  • Contribute to benefits related HRIS projects, in conjunction with HRIS team, to design, test, and implement system configurations related to 401(k) and benefit plans. Troubleshoot existing system issues. Ensure configuration supports the administrative requirements and compliance of all plans.

Analysis & Recommendations
  • Perform regular audits to ensure benefit plans are administered according to plan provisions and company regulatory guidelines. Ensure integrity of enrollment data for vendor feeds and import errors.
  • Perform monthly audits of employee withholdings and vendor invoicing, troubleshoot basic to moderately complex discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly billing payments for approval and perform reconciliations of contributions and holding accounts for various benefits programs.
  • Provide regular reporting and define reporting needs to support the needs of the Benefits team and vendor requests such as retirement plan eligibility and non-discrimination testing.
  • Develop data analysis needs recommendations and perform data analysis to evaluate benefit programs, determine trends, uncover issues and propose solutions while anticipating future needs.
  • Track benefits cost, claims, and other benefits related data. Prepare cost analysis of benefit expense, participation, and ROI. Assist with preparation of annual budget projections and other financial forecasting needs.
  • Participate in benefit surveys, compile and organize survey data, assist with identifying benchmarks to make recommendations to support benefit strategy and design and contract negotiations.

Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing benefit programs including ERISA, ACA, and SOX compliance. Follow and provide recommendations on standard operating processes and procedures to support benefit administration and internal controls.
  • Prepare IRS Forms 1094 & 1095 and perform monthly and annual eligibility testing under the ACA. Calculate annual PCORI and Transitional reinsurance fee. Manage annual taxation of BOLI plans.
  • Work with external and internal auditors and finance to provide data. Assist with completion of 5500s and other required filings.
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive and well organized written materials (e.g. policies, FAQs) to communicate benefit changes. Audit internal materials for accuracy and further improvement opportunities.

Projects
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve existing processes and system configuration to increase efficiency, effectiveness and knowledge of the group to provide quality service to associates and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist team members in annual and new projects. Be a project resource for a variety of topics including wellness programs, annual open enrollment, plan design and vendor changes, system design and configuration, and acquisition integration.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job:
  • 2 or more years of experience as a Benefits Analyst
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Strong analytical skills and basic knowledge of plan design
  • Strong financial / business acumen

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience with 401k and pension plans
  • Workday or other HRIS Experience

Level of Complexity and Scope:
  • Gather and analyze data, as well as provide recommendations for all but the most complex benefit programs.
  • Collaboratively manage or lead basic projects; support projects by gathering data, administering processes, and/or working with internal/external clients.

Degree of Independence and Decision-Making:
  • May collaborate on complex projects or lead more straight-forward projects with limited guidance from a more senior role.
  • Consults and collaborates on benefit plan management.
  • May have individual responsibility for programs under the guidance of management or a more senior role.
  • Regularly works independently, but receives periodic guidance and general direction from management or more senior roles.
  • Responsible for implementation and overseeing administration of benefit programs.

Physical Requirements:
  • Occasionally lifts and carries less than 10 lbs.
  • Frequently sits.
  • Occasionally stands and walks.
