Education

Minimum: Completion of an approved Radiologic Technology Program. Associates degree in applied science.

Preferred: Completion of a Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) Program.

Credentials/Licensure

Minimum: Registered Radiologic Technologist or Nuclear Med Tech. Must maintain continuing education credits per biennium to retain Radiologic Technologist Registry in compliance with the CE requirements of their certifying organization for the imaging modality in which they perform services. Certification or re-certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire.

Preferred: Bone Mineral Densitometry Certification preferred. AART (BD) or comparable registry.

Related Experience

Minimum: Two years prior experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs diagnostic examinations for BMD scans in accordance with state and federal guidelines. These include forearm, lumbar, hip, and IVA (Instant Vertebral Assessment) scanning.
  • Assesses patient's condition to determine appropriate procedure and technique to utilize in order to perform examination.
  • Assists Radiologists in gathering history on patient and calculating the results of BMD scans per protocol.
  • Uses BMD equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Performs daily quality control on the BMD equipment and measures precision to aid in interpretation of exams.
  • Communicates with Hologic support services to problem solve equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs a wide variety of support functions for the department, such as transporting patients, processing scans, processing examination requests, charging patient for proper exam, gathering/ordering/maintaining supplies, cleaning equipment, obtaining proper orders for exam from referring physician's office, obtaining previous x-ray jacket from film room, performing necessary quality assessment, etc.
  • Performs in other Radiology areas as license permits.
  • Maintains knowledge in BMD equipment by participating in training sessions, reading journals and other educational opportunities.
