The University of Virginia is seeking a BAS Service Manager for Facilities Management. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University-owned and leased properties.

FM's Automation Services Department installs, maintains, and optimizes the building automation system (BAS) infrastructure throughout the University. Automation Services is seeking a Service Manager to oversee the Operations and Maintenance of the building automation systems (BAS) throughout the University.

This person must possess extensive knowledge and experience in the installation, repair, maintenance, and operations of BAS components which control commercial HVAC systems, cold storage monitoring, and other critical building systems. The successful candidate must also have a keen business acumen to assist with strategic planning and process improvement to optimize department efficiency. They monitor preventative maintenance programs and adjust them to extend the equipment and systems life, maximize energy and resource conservation, and minimize emergency service calls. With a focus on reinvestment and deferred maintenance program development, this role performs advanced strategic planning. They provide training and development opportunities to assigned areas. They must also possess proven ability to lead a team of direct reports and be effective in collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. The Service Manager will exemplify the University's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage operations, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all BAS infrastructure and components on Grounds.

  • Ensure supervisors and other direct reports are overseeing the efficiency and quality of the work done by the workers in their respective trades.

  • Execute some budget responsibilities for individual projects and team operating budgets.

  • Develop, lead, and assess small teams with a motivational approach.

  • Articulate mission, vision, and goals of teams. Plan and organize multiple priorities within projects.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret information in collaboration with University leaders to help improve processes.

  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Collaborate with Architects and Engineers to best utilize technicians in building maintenance and construction.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Requires seven years of experience with at least five years of relevant supervisory or leadership experience in BAS industry.

Licensure: May possess certification or license in one or more trades

Preferred Qualifications:

Ten plus years of overall HVAC and/or BAS experience highly desired.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000 - actual starting salary dependent on applicants' education, skills, and experience.

Physical Demands:

Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend, and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
