The Mueller Company is headquartered in Atlanta, GA and manufactures valves for water and gas systems, including iron gate, butterfly, tapping, check, plug, and ball valves, as well as dry-barrel and wet-barrel fire hydrants; pipe repair products, such as clamps and couplings used to repair leaks, as well as municipal castings, including manhole covers and street drain grates; and residential and commercial water meter products and systems. It also offers metering, leak detection, pipe condition assessment, and other products and services for the water infrastructure industry, as well as provides installation, replacement, and maintenance services on new and existing valves, fire hydrants, and service lines.

Position Summary:

The Buyer I provides and supports critical functions including purchasing and inventory control. The Buyer works daily with supply chain and manufacturing to support lean inventory and procurement strategies for purchased material. The Buyer's main responsibility is to execute purchase orders in a timely fashion based on MRP and Kanban requirements to ensure an uninterrupted flow of purchased materials.

Key to success in this role:

  • Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements.

  • Experience and knowledge of MRP systems.
  • Maintain day to day communication with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery performance.
  • Proactively participate in identifying areas for improvement in the supply base.
  • Have a general understanding of lean manufacturing and JIT principles / tools and how to apply them in the appropriate situation.
  • Places and manages purchases orders in accordance with MRP, Kanban signals, production plan goals and related planning data.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Business Management or related field is preferred. BS/BA Degree in Management, Sourcing or related field; MBA strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of material flow optimization strong preferred.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team focused atmosphere

  • Strong organization and analytical skills
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Completes tasks within the requested timeline, with limited oversight.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time/workload and delegate work in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to negotiate by collaborating with others to arrive at a conclusion using compromise, persuasion, rationale, and diplomacy.
  • Skill in conflict resolution including the ability to address difference of opinions or facts and use the most appropriate method to reach an effective solution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain or Operations Excellence a plus.
  • CPP, CPPM, CPIM or other professional certification for purchasing or supply chain
