General Description:

An employee in this position provides public safety, law enforcement and security services for the Campus Police Department. The services are provided for all facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) The services include patrolling the jurisdiction by foot, motorized vehicle, bicycle and CCTV surveillance. Employee is a current Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) certified peace officer. Employee is able to effectively and efficiently perform the duties of the position with minimal immediate supervision. Requires service-oriented attitude, flexibility, ability to exercise discretion, and a strong moral and ethical character.

This position is safety sensitive and subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Minimum Education/Experience:

H.S. Diploma/GED

AND

Current CLEET Peace Officer Certification or COPS Certification.(college transcript required for COPS)

OR

CLEET recognized reciprocity for Law Enforcement certification from another State Training Council.

Valid driver's license

Ability to perform all duties while wearing the Department's specified uniform and equipment.

Ability to successfully complete annual respirator fit test.

Must maintain a valid drivers License.

Must maintain continuous full CLEET certification.

Ability to qualify on CLEET shotgun course.

Ability to work willingly and cooperatively with others as part of a team.

Ability to become certified in American Red Cross C.P.R.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

This position is deemed mission essential. In case of inclement weather or other emergency situations, the incumbent is expected to report to work as directed.

Work is performed both inside facilities and in outdoor areas of jurisdiction.

All work site locations are 100% Tobacco Free including College vehicles. (E-Cigarettes are not authorized to be used in jurisdiction)

Full Police Uniform and Equipment (Supplied by OCCC Campus Police) are worn.

Work involves exposure to uncooperative, agitated and hostile subjects.

Work environment may include periodic exposure to offensive body and or chemical odors.

Position also requires:

Ability to push, drag or pull moderate to heavy loads including equipment, supplies and persons for short distances.

Ability to negotiate stairs, ramps and ladders.

Ability to lift loads up to 75lbs.

Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all weather hazards and other law enforcement emergency driving conditions.

Ability to utilize standard desktop and notebook computers, software and office equipment used by the Campus Police Department.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Ability to be successfully respirator fit tested and capable of working in a hazardous environment while using a respirator.

Ability and willingness to when necessary, physically control resistant offenders and to defend oneself and others from physical attack.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years previous and continuous full time Law enforcement experience, with service time within 24 months of application.

Law Enforcement (LE) Experience at a College or University

Intoxilyzer 8000 qualification.

Mental Health Crisis Intervention training.

CLEET Instructor certification.

CLEET Firearms Instructor certification.

CLEET Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor certification.

CLEET Custody & Defensive Tactics (CDT) Instructor certification.

Intermediate or Proficient Bilingual ability.

Successful completion of college coursework.

Required Training:

Serve in a Critical role in the OCCC emergency management plan. An employee in this position must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 90 days of employment (subject to class availability) and on a continuing basis as required. The specific courses to be completed within 90 days of employment in this position include:

Successful completion of OCCC Campus Police Field Training Program.

Annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training.

Work Hours:

The OCCC Campus Police Department operates 24 hours per day each day of the year. Selected candidate may be assigned to any shift to meet the needs of the department. Normal work shift is 8 hours.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Adhere to the policies of the police department regarding personal hygiene and dress and appearance requirements while on duty. These policies include standards and limitations set for areas such as uniform apparel and condition, hair cut styles and lengths, facial hair, body tattooing and piercing.
Attend pre-shift activity briefing upon arrival for duty; ask questions and participate in required departmental training and assignment discussions
Respond to routine public safety service requests, inquiries, complaints, alarms and emergency messages, identifying and recognizing criminal acts.
Issue warnings, citations and effects arrest when appropriate.
Effectively and legibly communicate facts and circumstances of personal observations, readings or received information on activity, incident or accident report forms.
Follow established protocol regarding notification of campus personnel and patrons in the event of emergencies.
Provide assistance to campus staff and patrons with safety escorts, battery jumps and vehicle lockouts, receive visitors and answer questions.
Provide property and asset protection by locking/unlocking areas of jurisdiction, monitoring alarm points and documenting security concerns.
Provide traffic control and parking enforcement; issue oral or written warnings when able or written citations when enforcement action is appropriate.
Arrest, search and transport prisoners.
Conduct moderately complex investigations of crimes and accidents. Interview victims, suspects and witnesses, collect all evidence and facts, complete and file reports appropriately.
Testify in court in response to subpoena as a witness and/or reporting officer to crime.
Disseminate information to appropriate individuals within and outside of agency jurisdiction and effectively work with agents, deputies and officers of other agencies.
In conjunction with the Chief of Police provide supervision and direction to Armed Security Officers during law enforcement operations.
Assist in training new officers according to established schedule and guidelines.
Dispatch Radio messages to other officers and agents of OCCC.
Monitor and respond to Fire Alarm and Campus emergency alert systems.
Speak to groups and individuals about campus public safety issues inclusive of creating and facilitating presentations on specific public safety-related topics as may be assigned based on experience and ability.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
This position has been identified as having significant responsibility for student and campus activities. The individual holding this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to report crimes they become aware of to the Reporting Structure at Oklahoma City Community College. Annual CSA training is required for individuals holding this position.
