Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Chiropractor Assistant provides assistance to Chiropractic providers and other suppor staff in patient care. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable populations of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Mission of our Health Center.
  • Supports the providers in all duties to ensure quality health care is provided to all patients
  • Provides quality, efficient, and effective care to all patients
  • Communicates status of patients to incoming personnel, communicates with physicians regarding the care of patients, transcribes, clarifies and implements physician's orders
  • Responsible for initiating, supervising, delegating activities associated with patient treatment plan
  • Performs patient assessment and documentation prior to a physician visit to include vital signs appropriate for patient age, initial assessment screening questions, review of the Problem Summary List, as well as a list of all current medications
  • Prepares equipment and assists physician or mid-level during examinations and treatment
  • Performs appropriate telephone triage using established practice guidelines
  • Reviews patient medication lists
  • Notifies physician or mild-level regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct medical consultation
  • Facilitates patient and family access to health care, school, and community resources including specialists, pharmaceutical assistance services, mental health and drug treatment programs
  • Writes progress notes on patients: charts or enters information in EMR, as appropriate, indication patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required
  • Provides health education to patients and families
  • Assist in performing administrative duties including, but not limited to, answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing, faxing, copying patient medical records, and basic medical records maintenance
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educations programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops as needed
  • Collaborates with all team members to provide quality care
  • Complies with all federal and state laws as well as all Company policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Complies with all HIPAA rules, including but not limited to, the Privacy Rule, the Security Rule and the Breach Notification and Enforcement Rules
  • Assists in developing ideas and programs to reach more students and staff members at the local schools
  • Serves on a committee
  • Demonstrates ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant educational endeavors and appropriate associations
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Graduation from an accredited education programformedical assistant preferred
  • Minimum 1-year experience in community health center, or similar, setting a plus.
  • CPR certification required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care
  • Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance and quality control standards
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
