Clinical Instructor of Medicine

Location:
New Orleans, Louisiana
Open Date:
Apr 23, 2021
Description:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Your clinical responsibilities will be assigned at UMC (50%) and at Tulane Medical Center (50%). The TMC comprises both Tulane and Lakeside hospitals and clinic days and times will be determined by availability of clinic space. In addition, we will explore the potential for some of your TMC clinical time to be in clinics in either Mandeville or the West Bank and also opportunities for telemedicine elsewhere. You will also attend inpatient consultation rounds and will rotate weekend and holiday on‐call with the other members of the section of Endocrinology.  We would also expect you to sometimes help cover the Endocrine teaching clinic at UMC when Dr Galagan is not available, sharing the responsibility with others in the section. When covering the teaching clinic or when on call, you could reduce your Tulane clinic responsibilities.  Your clinical responsibilities also include full participation in the clinical activities of the Deming Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology. These responsibilities may vary from time to time and will be assigned by Dr. Vivian Fonseca. You will be expected to participate in the evaluation of your division's results and to fully engage in appropriate quality initiatives.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES: Your teaching responsibilities will include attending section educational programs when convenient and teaching fellows/ residents and students in clinic and delivering 2 lectures per year. As faculty at Tulane, you may be asked to assist other faculty in patient recruitment in clinical trials and work on academic development consistent with personal growth so that you will be eligible for future promotions. If you obtain funding, including clinical trials, it may be possible for you to reduce your clinical responsibilities proportionally. The department will do everything possible to further your personal academic goals and we would encourage you to avail of opportunities for further education within the Tulane system (such as obtaining an MPH or MSCR or MBA).

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION RESPONSIBILITIES: You are expected, as all faculty members are, to mentor both residents and students and stimulate them to participate in mentored research projects and other scholarly activity. We expect each faculty member to be meaningfully involved in presentations and/or publications annually.

SERVICE REQUIREMENTS: You will participate fully in the missions of the department: clinical, teaching, and service. You are expected to fully participate in all departmental initiatives to support the missions. Attendance at departmental faculty meetings is requested.

The above responsibilities are determined from time to time by your Department and the Dean and are subject to change based on the needs of the School of Medicine and the University.

Qualifications:
  • M.D. who has successfully completed an Endocrinology fellowship program.
  • You will have 24 month to pass the ABIM certified exam in Endocrinology
