Job Summary
The Support Specialist will work with the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) group as a key liaison to the Operations group in order to ensure a smooth loan pre-closing, closing, and post-closing process. This includes the ability to properly document the loan within the loan approval system (nCino) as well as the coordination and execution of loan closings from beginning to end. In addition, the management of AFS and nCino data integrity will be a key component of their responsibility. These responsibilities require being able to work well with the Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, Relationship Assistants, and Loan Operations. The ultimate goal is to have an efficient, effective and client friendly loan closing process for all CRE clients.

This position will be a HYBRID role where one will work in the office at our Troy MI Headquarters at least 3 days per week.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Loan Support - Specialist will execute on all aspects of the loan closing process both pre and post-closing. They will coordinate and facilitate with the relationship team to make sure it is executed at the highest level. The Specialist is responsible for the entire process from the initial due diligence to loan documents and post-closing items. As an example, some of these functions may include ordering real estate due diligence (appraisals, etc.), attaining insurance, beneficial ownership forms, legal matter #s and all other items on a closing checklist, etc. In addition to loan closings, Specialists may also process payments for SOWs, work with the nCino process, provide data management validation, and monitor/resolve covenant and documentation exceptions, among other duties. Coordinates payment processing for interim credit risk appraisals and / or enterprise evaluations. Adheres to record retention compliance.
  • Department Liaison - Must be able to work well and coordinate with the relationship team for loan closing activity by providing communications to internal loan documentation team, if applicable or with outside legal. Must also be able to work well with loan Operations to confirm all required information is provided to them in order for the loan to close in a timely manner. In addition, work with the team to address all post-closing tasks. Work across multiple lines of business within the bank including Treasury Management, Legal (inside and outside), Enterprise Risk, Loan Documentation, Loan Servicing, Capital Markets, and Derivatives / SWAPs to support the loan closing process. Oversee sales quality assurance of post loan closing activity related to submission of corrections for MIS Reporting and or AFS Loan Corrections.
  • Departmental Management - Work cohesively with RAs to assist and manage the workflow of the loan groups, as time allows. Cross trained and backup support for Relationship Assistants.

Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:
  • HS Diploma, GED or Foreign Equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Required Years and Type of Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of customer service experience with commercial banking, branch banking, treasury / cash management and/or mortgage.
  • Has knowledge in origination of loans and closing process.
  • Demonstrated understanding of loan booking procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of banking laws and functions for compliance issues.
  • Familiar with standard banking procedures/ processes on account inquiries, investigations, and productivity reports (ex: pipeline reporting).
  • Skills:

  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to adapt to new demands and challenges and work under minimal supervision.
  • Competently utilize computer software - Salesforce, nCino, MS Word, MS Excel, the Internet and email are an integral part of day to day activity.
