Job Summary/Basic Function:

  • The Department of Public Health and Population Science(PHPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Project Coordinator (CPC). The CPC is responsible for working with the Department and College of Health Sciences to coordinate communication projects, develop and maintain the overall communication strategies and branding for PHPS, as well as developing goals, messaging points for each audience and orchestrating communication tactics.
  • The CPC will create communication pieces that adhere to brand guidelines; provide written content for websites, social media, and communication updates; coordinate and track the creation and use of collateral materials; and champion social media.
  • The CPC will coordinate with/on University, College, and School and Department events and
    engagement activities, including development projects and PHPS Student Appreciation.
  • The successful candidate will have strong writing, editing, proofreading and interpersonal skills; excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and project management skills; and expertise and facility with publishing platforms, including social media, web, mobile, and traditional print. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with project management to include successful execution, determination and definition of project scope, needs, and objectives (knowledge or familiarity with Agile, Scrum, is a plus).

Department Overview:
The Department of Public Health and Population Science (PHPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Coordinator Coordinator (CC). The CC is responsible for working with the Department and College of Health Sciences to develop and maintain the overall communication strategies and branding for PHPS as well as developing goals, messaging points for each audience and orchestrating communication and communications projects. The CC will create communication pieces that adhere to brand guidelines; provide written content for websites, social media, and communication updates; coordinate and track the creation and use of collateral materials; be the primary coordinator of communications projects; and champion social media.

Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Typically hold a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:
Communications (60%):
  • Develop and Implement Communications Planning and Strategy
  • Develop internal and external communications plans that include printed, digital, and social
    media.
  • Develop ways to create an inclusive department community
  • Optimize the student experience, develop a more informed and engaged student community
  • Evaluate effectiveness of communication plans and strategies
  • Develop guidelines and processes for communication activities
  • Develop multi-platform social media campaigns and track success of engagement strategies
  • Develop Department brand in accord with Boise State branding guidelines and strengthen
    overall visual identity
  • Coordinate communications calendar and priorities; Works with department subcommittees
    to support marketing needs.
  • Write ongoing social media, web, e-mail communications, and press and print content;
    creates content and distributes communication to students, such as the publication of the
    department newsletter.
  • Coordinates website accessibility compliance as it relates to University Communications
    policies and procedures.
  • Department primary contact for coordination of changes to partner websites (Graduate
    College, College of Health Sciences, College of Health Sciences Advising); ensures follow
    through of changes and updates with partners.

Project Coordination (35%):
  • Assist in overall PHPS strategic planning
  • Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines
  • Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the
    project
  • Serve as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to
    ensure synergy
  • Communicate with leadership to ensure alignment with goals/objectives of the project
  • Perform quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards
    expected
  • Adjust schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change
  • Manage and update project management IT system

5% Duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of design and publishing concepts
  • Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail
  • Ability to generate, cultivate and maintain business relationships with a diverse set of
    stakeholders and demonstrate strong communication skills
  • Good knowledge of creative directions and design best practices; developing and implementing
    communication and marketing plans, and project coordination
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and problem solve
  • Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 2 years experience in communications, marketing or public relations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in communication, public relations, marketing, or health promotion field, plus, 1 year of experience in communication, marketing, or public relations
  • Experience in higher education
  • Trained in Project Coordination
  • Experience in usable and accessible websites
  • Some graphic design experience

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range starts at $49,000-$52,000, commensurate with experience and education.
