CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

University of Delaware's Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) serves prospective and current students and their families, assisting with issues related to admission, transfer, registration, matriculation, financial aid, scholarships, and billing. UD's Student Financial Services (SFS) coordinates student financial aid, billing, work-study and supports University and Division efforts to promote student success.

Under the general direction of the Director of Student Services & Communications, the Communications Specialist I for Student Financial Services (SFS) develops strategic billing and financial aid communications, key messages, and informational materials for both internal and external audiences for distribution via multiple channels (print, email, social media, video, web, and various media outlets). The Communications Specialist I collaborates with SFS leaders and colleagues, and maintains relationships with campus partners across UD, to plan, manage, execute, and assess comprehensive communications that support both unit- and division-wide goals of promoting student access and retention.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with SFS leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive communications planning process for the unit, ensuring timeliness, compliance and accessibility of required information.
  • Executes SFS communications with input from the Director, SFS and Division of Enrollment Management staff, and the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM).
  • Drafts, reviews, updates, and sends billing/aid communications to over 24,000 students and authorized users
  • Produces and coordinates all aspects of mailing to over 18,000 admitted students
  • Maintains the SFS website in Adobe Experience Manager, coordinating with the OCM digital team.
  • Creates presentations and outreach materials for use in on- and off-campus events.
  • Develops electronic and print media and publications to disseminate billing, financial aid, work-study, and financial literacy communications and messages to relevant audiences.
  • Uses data to determine targeted communications focused on yield and retention initiatives and integrates with various campus customer relationship management systems (i.e. UDSIS, Slate, Salesforce) for delivery of messages.
  • Collaborates with Undergraduate Admissions and campus communicators to ensure comprehensive and cohesive messaging related to financial services.
  • Ensures consistency with University style and brand for all communication channels.
  • Ensures communications (both print and online) remain in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex billing and financial information to engaging, easily understandable materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), WordPress and/or other web content management systems; knowledge of best practices in web accessibility and user experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with attention to detail, and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in order to complete rapid turnaround of billing/aid materials.
  • Experience crafting communications messages and adapting to different audiences.
  • Ability to envision, develop, and deliver creative content (text, image, and video).
  • Proficiency with the Google Suite and Microsoft 365.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of higher education, especially from the lens of student billing and financial aid, preferred.
  • Special Requirements:
