About the Department:

The Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility is a university-wide center that supports student and faculty ethics-related education and activities. The Center seeks to recognize, honor and model ethical behavior; provide moral reflection on the contemporary issues; and celebrate ethics that reflect SMU's fundamental goals.

About the Position:

The Coordinator provides administrative support to the director and associate director of the Maguire Ethics Center and is responsible for coordinating events, programs, and communications.

The position is responsible for coordinating major center events, drafting executive-level correspondence, social media content creation, creating and distributing marketing materials and maintaining accurate databases. In addition to events and communications, the coordinator will take on general office administration care and duties.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and manage special events, programs and conferences.
  • Maintain contact databases and manage administrative paperwork including check deposits, payment requests, invoice tracking and charitable donations.
  • Write, proof and revise written correspondence and conduct necessary research.
  • Create and distribute original marketing materials for center programs and events. This includes working across the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, MyEmma Marketing Software, Outlook, and Sitecore to create brand-specific, seamless communications.
  • Provide executive-level administrative support for the director and associate director. This includes scheduling, letter writing, travel coordination, expense reports, and meeting preparation.
  • Supervise student employees.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's is required.

A minimum of two years work experience in an office setting is required. As an example, this may include event planning, public relations, communications, professional administrative support or academic department support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must also demonstrate a strong customer service orientation.

Candidate must demonstrate strong written communication skills with ability to produce clear, concise, and error-free materials. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential.

Candidate must possess strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Must also be a self-starter with the abilities to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed.

Candidate must demonstrate strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite Adobe InDesign, and Photoshop. Candidate should be comfortable quickly learning new software and have experience with or willing to learn digital content creation software Canvas and Sitecore.
