Position Summary:

The Coordinator of Community Partnerships will work with college leadership to build need-based, community-driven programs that directly address health challenges and result in collaborative engagement between the college of medicine and regional partners. Within the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Health Democratization, the Coordinator of Community Partnerships will manage the establishment of the Community Task Force to conduct asset mapping, health needs assessment, and resource collaboration to address these needs, and oversee community service and service-learning opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. This committed community partner will work to identify unmet health needs in our community and work collaboratively with college leadership to implement programs aimed at addressing those needs. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Diversity and Democratization of Health Innovation and requires close coordination, communication and interaction with college leadership, faculty, students, as well as representatives from various communities, organizations, diverse populations, and cultures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Task Force

  • Serve as the College's liaison to government, educational, non-profit organizations, and other community organizations to facilitate in community health initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee the College's task force that consists of diverse stakeholders to identify opportunities and initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between medicine and social determinants of health and reducing healthcare disparities including needs assessment processes or methodology to evaluate community needs.
  • Collaborate with the Carle Illinois Executive Leadership Team to coordinate task force initiatives and align with college priorities including collateral and strategic communications, research opportunities, and identification of philanthropy and donor opportunities.
  • Serve as day-to-day outreach coordinator disseminating approved communications, monitoring daily email with partners and community members, organizing community task force meetings, and coordinating with internal college priorities.
Community Service and Service Learning
  • Responsible for oversight of the community service and service-learning portal in which community partners post opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Oversee community onboarding requirements including coordinating the agreements with legal, risk management, and community partners.
  • Develop infrastructure for formalizing affiliations including formal agreements between Carle Illinois and external organizations.
  • In collaboration with college leadership, implement volunteer engagement programs and volunteer recognition opportunities for community, staff, and faculty involved in community partnership programs.
  • Develop and deliver required training for volunteers including cultural humility and sensitivity modules, working with minors training, and compliance requirements for health screenings activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and effectively utilize a volunteer database, including entering data and contact notes into the database to capture volunteer activities, outcomes, and opportunities (including tracking service learning as a separate category from volunteerism) in coordination with appropriate College units including advancement, marketing and communication, and student affairs.
  • Develop and implement evaluative measures/tools to assess the efficacy and impact of community outreach initiatives and programs, including surveys, written reports, testimonials, and verbal comments.
  • Produce an annual report to the Carle Illinois Executive Leadership Team on community engagement and outcomes related to the College's strategic plan and areas for improvement.
  • In partnership with college leadership, identify and pursue government grant opportunities and identify philanthropic opportunities to refer to advancement to support community outreach initiatives.
  • Serve as day-to-day administrator of communications with partners and community members and College stakeholders and identifying opportunities for area students, faculty, and staff to participate in service learning, volunteer, and other community engagement opportunities.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships; work cooperatively and collegially with others in a manner consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect; support and engage in equal employment opportunity principles, rules, and regulations.
  • Champion positive inter-professional relationships bridging the College's public-private organization and missions.
  • Learn and support the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standards as related to outreach and volunteer involvement with students and programming.
  • Regular travel locally and within the central Illinois area may be required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Public Policy, Communication, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, Ethnic Studies, or a closely related degree field.
Required Experience:
  • Three years of work experience in community and/or outreach programming including experience developing/sustaining highly effective community-based relationships.
  • Three years of experience recruiting, training, managing, and supporting an organized volunteer service program.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, events management and managing community initiatives.
  • Experience may be concurrent.
Preferred Experience:
  • Five years of work experience in community and or outreach programming including experience developing/sustaining highly effective community-based relationships.
  • Local community outreach experience (Champaign-Urbana, east central Illinois or surrounding area).
  • Experience in higher education or health care.
  • Demonstrated understanding of service-learning programs as defined by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
  • Grant writing or grant development experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be willing to learn all aspects of the College's strategic approach to curriculum, research, diversity and inclusion, and collaboration, including engineering-based medical education in the context of the Carle Health and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign private/public relationship.
  • Must be willing to learn and respect university policies and Liaison Committee on Medical Education standards.
  • Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate collaborative and mentoring relationships, solve problems, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.
  • Strong ability to work independently, collaboratively and to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in support of larger organizational objectives.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in communication, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • A strong work ethic, an approachable leadership style, and a consistent focus on the college's immediate and strategic goals.
  • Experience and a record of accomplishment that reflects excellent organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects and successfully establish priorities, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Appointment Information:

This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after July 12, 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience.
