The Health & Safety Director is primarily responsible for leading, supporting, and augmenting the Best-In-class safety vision set by our Executive Leadership Team through constant communication with our manufacturing facilities. Plans, directs, and manages the corporate safety programs. Develops, directs, and ensures the implementation of internal policies, procedures, and practices. Ensures compliance with all safety standards disseminated by all Federal, State, and local agencies through the implementation of on-site inspection and monitoring programs. Promotes communication programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident and fire prevention, industrial hygiene and environmental compliance. Responsible for building strong relationships with internal customers.

Essential Job Duties

  • Leads the effort to maintain a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment
    through planning and implementing safety policies and procedures.
  • Develops and conducts training programs for managers and employees.
  • Conducts safety orientations with key personnel to ensure all facilities remain
    compliant with Company, Local, State, and Federal safety policies and regulations.
  • Oversees the prevention and identification of hazardous workplace conditions.
  • Ensures and maintains necessary record keeping, including all safety and accident reports in accordance with established guidelines and assisting with
    workers compensation cases and programs.
  • Conducts extensive post incident reviews for every recordable or serious near miss
    incident across the company.
  • Utilizes existing and creates new communication and compliance processes to ensure
    that identified hazards that likely exist across facilities are identified and corrective action is implemented.
  • Compiles and submits accident reports to regulatory agencies, prepares analyses of
    industrial accident causes and hazards to health.
  • Conducts frequent onsite safety audits at manufacturing facilities and prepares
    results and action items for the plant, their operations leadership, and
    legal review.
  • Coordinates an intercompany, regional audit program whereby individuals from nearby facilities visit each other's plants and conduct audits thereby ensuring
    consistent compliance audit procedures companywide. This includes conducting OHSA training, identifying priority participants, and providing leadership and
    facilitation of corrective actions.
  • Conducts safety training sessions regionally to enhance plant level understanding
    of safety requirements and best practices.
  • Communicates with the entire company regularly about safety goals and performance against those goals and strives to motivate everyone to treat safety as a core value in their everyday work and personal routines. Further, communicates the leadership requirements associated with the process of establishing the goals - e.g. gap analysis of actual performance to planned or strategic goals, facilitate prioritization of activities, etc.

Education, Skill, Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Risk Management, Business, Process Engineering or relevant discipline
  • In depth knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements, NIOSH, ANSI, as well
    as related State regulations and standards. Ability to translate regulatory knowledge into policies and procedures
  • 10+ years of leadership experience within a manufacturing environment with multisite responsibility
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and persuasively with all levels of the organization, as individual must effect changes without the authority to mandate it. Tact and diplomacy are critical. This skill set includes conflict resolution ability.
  • Expertise in applying safety knowledge, data analysis and facilitation skills to
    develop solutions to a variety of problems
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Training expertise, including needs assessment, training design, coordination and
    platform training skills
  • Proven competency in personal computer applications such as Microsoft Office,
    PowerPoint, Word, Excel, database systems
  • Demonstrated experience with change management techniques, influencing change while maintaining strong business relationships
  • High level of initiative to identify problems and develop solutions
  • Basic knowledge of EPA programs such as Hazardous Waste, etc.
  • Position requires up to 30-40% travel
