Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position is responsible for providing a range of direct professional counseling services, for Boise State University students, faculty, staff and dependents of these groups, within the scope of services offered by Counseling Services. Direct services include treatment for a full range of mental conditions, excluding diagnosis that are deemed severe and persistent and require a higher level of care than Counseling Services is equipped to provide. This position will ensure sufficient clinical oversight of clinical staff and operations for best practices of mental health in a university setting. The clinical coordinator works closely with the Director of Counseling Services in coordinating leadership efforts to help carry out the vision and mission of Counseling Services within the broader Health Services. In coordination with the Director of Counseling Services, this position will manage support of the day-to-day clinical operations of Counseling Services.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures

Essential Functions:
Direct Clinical Services:

  • Provide direct service counseling (individual, multi-person, group, psychological
    evaluation) to Boise State students, faculty, staff and dependents within the scope of
    services offered by Counseling Services.
  • Provide Crisis intervention and triage coverage/consultation to students and other
    university community.
  • Provide weekly individual supervision to assigned supervisee(s).
  • Other clinical services as assigned (Group supervision facilitation, AODA assessments, ADHD assessments, etc.).

Clinical Coordination:
  • Meet the administrative duties of coordinating all clinical operations (manage and
    coordinate the clinical schedules of all Counseling Services providers, regulate all
    caseloads, represent Counseling Services on the Uncompensated Care team, assign and
    track AODA sanctions, facilitate staff meetings in the absence of Director of Counseling
    Services, etc.).
  • Daily oversight, maintenance, and problem solving of all providers' clinical schedules with
    a focus on accessibility, productivity, and quality.
  • Liaison between Counseling Services and Billing and Insurance team to help track,
    maintain and problem solve matters related to credentialing, licensure, continuing
    education, etc. for all Counseling staff.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Administrative and Indirect Services:
  • Participate in weekly psych rounds and staff meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Timely completion of case notes.
  • Participate in, design and/or conduct developmental and outreach program activities that
    are helpful to the mental health of the university community.
  • Consult as need, requested, or assigned with Health Services colleagues, parents, faculty,
    staff and community about mental health concerns.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Clinical knowledge, skills, and experience related to providing individual, couples, and group counseling, such as empathy, listening skills, problem solving, a wide repertoire of intervention and assessment strategies, adherence to pertinent ethical and legal statutes related to the provision of mental health services, awareness of personal and interpersonal dynamics, and a comprehensive understanding of mental health models, policies and procedures related to the field of psychology and clinical counseling and social work.
  • Crisis management skills and experience related to assessment, intervention, collaboration, and utilization of crisis referral resources.
  • Supervisory skills and experience related to the ability to be supportive and encouraging while skilled in methods of case analysis, knowledge of various theoretical orientations and supervisory models, and ability to critically evaluate clinical and professional skills as well as give constructive feedback to supervisees.
  • Presenting skills and experience for communicating information in an oral or written format, the use of various learning modalities, group facilitation skills, and knowledge for addressing a diverse population.
  • Organization knowledge, skills and experience in successfully managing multiple functions simultaneously, and seeing projects through to completion.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Counseling or Social Work plus 5 years relevant professional experience
  • Current Clinical Licensure in either Counseling or Social Work in the state of Idaho.
  • Registered Supervisor in the state of Idaho.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong history of clinical supervisory experience
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. And an ability to work with diverse student, faculty and staff populations.

Salary starts at $75,000 depending on experience.
