Job Description Summary:

To oversee day-to-day assignments and to support custodial operational outcomes of the entire set of facilities at one of the large ACC campuses; and also maintain the cleanliness of their own assigned facility (Quad) ensuring supplies are in stock.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks
  • Reviews daily check off lists of assignments for other associates at the same campus to assured duties have been completed on-time and according to standards; may request associates to perform other job-related activities as needed; trains/assists other associates as needed.
  • Periodically conducts inventories of custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with orienting and training new hires on-the-job.
  • Arranges or performs set-ups or break-downs for special campus events.
  • Cleans assigned area by sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, sealing, buffing, vacuuming, washing surfaces, and other custodial-related duties.
  • Assignments may include cleaning bathrooms, picking up trash, cleaning doors, moving furniture, washing chalk/white boards, removing gum, cleaning drinking fountains, cleaning and emptying trash cans, making minor repairs, checking/cleaning equipment and other custodial-related duties.
  • Cleans and keeps custodial supply closets; determines and acquires equipment and supplies to perform assigned tasks.
  • Performs floor and carpet maintenance tasks; power washes sidewalks, stairs, entrances, and patio areas.
  • Receives and processes custodial maintenance requests from Custodial Specialist.
  • Responds to service calls which may involve emergency spills, plumbing backups, transporting miscellaneous packages and items within campus environment, unloading supplies, and equipment delivery; acts as part of Emergency Response team.
  • Moves and/or relocates furniture, including office and/or classroom moves; moves heavy mail and supplies for faculty and staff, and delivers media equipment.
  • Depending on area of assignment, may sanitize and maintain health science labs and/or child care areas.
  • Notifies Custodial Specialist of maintenance issues.
  • Completes daily log for Custodial Specialist noting unusual events, why certain assigned tasks were not completed, and status of requested projects for their own assigned Quad; completes daily assessment form noting what was accomplished in their own Quad cleaning; makes sure service assessment logs for the campus are submitted to the Specialist each month; reviews any other daily comments to forward to Specialist as needed.
  • May oversee specialty custodial areas such as laundry, etc.

Knowledge
  • Cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
  • Able to read product labels and emergency safety guidelines.
  • Custodial and maintenance safety standards and requirements.
  • Concepts and techniques of on-the-job training.

Skills
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through; able to prioritize.
  • Following written and verbal instructions.
  • Using cleaning products and equipment including, but not limited to, hand tools, carts, dollies, vacuum cleaner, scrubber, buffer, wet and dry mops, and brooms.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Technology Skills
  • Use basic computer skills such as accessing and sending emails, locating Internet sites, and completing time sheets.
  • Use required custodial technology for logging and documenting work area response.

Required Work Experience
  • Three years related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience
  • Three years custodial work experience with experience with multiple buildings, multi-purposed, labs, and classrooms.

Required Education
  • High school diploma or educational equivalent.

Special RequirementsLicenses/Certifications; Other
  • Job may require working night shifts; may be assigned to various campuses.

Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a variety of settings.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and at times subject to stooping, crawling, and climbing.
  • Routine exposure to hazardous chemicals, inclement weather, and/or varying temperatures.
  • May need to lift heavy objects of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs and stand/walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to wear backpack vacuum daily.

Safety
  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Salary Range

$32,448 - $41,717

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
