Job Description:

Customer & Logistics Specialist- AK Americas (Charlotte, NC - Ballantyne Office)

The Customer & Logistics Specialist- AK Americas position will report to the Customer Service Supervisor and is a key position in supporting the customer service function of two AK Americas businesses - Daramic and Celgard. This position will serve as the first point of contact for the customer and will perform the essential duties of order management, communication on material readiness and shipment status, and conflict resolution for the business on behalf of the customer. A key element of this job will be managing customer shipments, including international shipments.

Job Duties

Primary Responsibilities

  • Order management tasks including order entry, order acknowledgement, and making transportation arrangements as required
  • Arrange bookings for air, ground, and ocean transportation of domestic and export orders with freight management companies (i.e. freight forwarders, brokers). Provide internal and external communication to ensure on time delivery
  • Process material returns, customer feedback reports, shipping authorization requests, and credits
  • Perform all necessary tasks for new item creation and maintain customer data appropriately in the ERP system
  • Communicate product, pricing, and delivery charges to internal and external customers
  • Interact with production schedulers, material planners, warehouse personnel, quality control, and sales as needed to support customer needs
  • Track and manage on time delivery performance
  • Work with customs brokers to arrange and clear import shipments
  • Use the ERP systems reporting functions as needed to retrieve critical information from the system and communicate that information to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Serve as primary point of contact for miscellaneous international shipping needs (specialized equipment, chemicals, tooling, etc.)
  • Assist in the facilitation of the execution of intercompany orders, including processing shipping and receiving functions in the ERP system
  • Comply with all departmental ISO processes and procedures
  • Work in a high performance, team-centered environment to support company goals

Position Requirements:
  • Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in customer service with some Business to Business customer service experience
  • An Associate's degree with 2+ years of experience in customer service with some Business to Business customer service experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field of study with 0+ years of experience
  • Prefer Associates or Bachelor's degree

  • Computer skills - experience with an ERP or other systems such as Microsoft AX and Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management and problem solving skills required as well as detail orientation
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to build effective workplace relationships
  • Ability to multi-task and manage interruptions with professionalism
  • Ability to make decisions using discretion and judgement

Preferred Qualifications: Outlined below are preferred skills, but we can train the right candidate.
  • Experience in international customer service in a manufacturing or freight forwarding industry
  • Experience in processing domestic and international sales orders
  • Understanding of INCO terms, payment terms and other international relation functions
  • Knowledge of US import / export regulations
