What You'll Do

We are currently seeking a Customs & Trade Manager to provide day-to-day management of the team who are responsible for all activities of import/export and customs compliance, including the development of policies and procedures to ensure on-schedule delivery of merchandise in compliance with relevant regulations. This role will identify strategies to minimize import/export taxes, tariffs and fees while considering product classifications, duty rates, and tax issues. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the company meets customs reasonable care standards and is compliant in all aspects of the custom regulations
  • Identify process improvements, including the design and implementation of new practices, automation and strategic solutions to support the business growth
  • Work closely with the Brand product development team to tariff-engineer products achieving optimal duty rates
  • Contribute your vision in building the strategic direction of the broader customs organization by engaging on team projects both small and large
  • Document and execute processes and procedures as new laws and regulations warrant
  • Ensure the correct valuation of imports is applied
  • Implement Importer Self-Assessment program requirements
  • Support duty drawback, reconciliation, and other post-importation programs
  • Support the Company's Foreign Trade Zone project
  • Manage the validation, control and recordkeeping of Free Trade Agreement sourced production.
  • Oversee import operations, brokerage processes and SOPs
  • Implement improvement plans and develop operational efficiencies that drive both enhanced compliance and better business processes
  • Manage customs audits, including settlement of disputes/claims
  • Proactively spearhead regional projects and take the lead to analyze changes to supply chain and supply flows for imported and exported products
  • Develop sound working relationships with key departments within the Amer Sports organization, such as Distribution & Transport, Supply Chain, Sourcing and Finance
  • Keep up to date with customs related developments in legislation, case law and local practice
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a Licensed Customs Broker with a four-year degree, advanced degree preferred. Qualified candidates will have 10+ years of strong experience in international trade compliance, including tariff classification, origin / free trade agreements and customs valuation. Other qualifications include:
  • Strong leadership skills with prior experience managing others
  • Experience in developing/supporting group/regional customs and trade matters
  • Previous experience analyzing and evaluating national and inter-company cross-border business relationships
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of key business processes and strategic issues
  • Experience in dealing with customs authorities
  • Experience with tax and finance related software packages
  • Experience in the sporting goods industry is ideal
Qualified candidates must demonstrate good business judgment, and the ability to think like an entrepreneur. This includes the ability to think critically and to make clear and well-reasoned decisions and recommendations, while also considering the big picture. Other characteristics include:
  • Strong personality with effective communication and interpersonal skills to quickly establish credibility and trust among a broad range of individuals within and outside the company
  • Outstanding conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with a high energy level
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills; ability to multi task and to prioritize under pressure and within timeline constraints
  • Self-learner and self-aware of personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Candidate should be comfortable working in virtual teams, collaborating with others, while also capable of working independently to achieve results
  • Solid track record to achieve results in a complex, multi-cultural and multi-geographical environment
  • Strong integrity and ethics as well as a strong sense of accountability
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and abroad
