GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Data Analyst will take responsibility for supporting the Operations Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine ("DEM") with high-profile projects by performing quantitative analyses using electronic health and financial data to inform projects in clinical and business operations, financial planning, and strategic planning. The Data Analyst will also be responsible for building out and improving upon the departmental data analysis capacities through the translation of current/ongoing analyses into automated dashboards and visualizations. The Data Analyst will be responsible for cleaning and extracting information from multiple structured and unstructured data sources, writing code to perform quantitative analyses to resolve data problems. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience with statistical modeling and data analysis (SPSS, SAS, etc), and also prior experience working with healthcare data, or experience in healthcare delivery.

The scope of this role spans all of DEM's Brigham and Women's Physician Organization (BWPO), Brigham Health Hospital locations, and Harvard Medical School (HMS) initiatives, accounts, employees, and related issues.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess the scope of work, data requirements, sequence of actions, and deliverables when assigned projects and tasks.
  • Work with the Operations Director to define and develop strategy and execution for dashboard automation.
  • Work closely with department leaders and executive teams to inform departmental and hospital level initiatives.
  • Develop code to clean, integrate and analyze clinical and administrative health data.
  • Assist in developing capabilities for synthesizing, archiving and analyzing all relevant clinical, administrative, operational and financial data regarding acute care delivery at the patient level. These will need to be in accordance with relevant regional and national requirements for data security and patient privacy protection.
  • Serve as the IT Project Lead for data analysis and collection
  • Complete inventory of data elements that are relevant to understanding acute care delivery operations, cost, quality/outcomes and patient flow.
  • Develop methods such as data cleaning and merging, extraction/creation of relevant clinical and operational variables to support defined informatics needs of a project, related research initiatives and operational management of the acute care system.
  • Develop strategies for gathering new data elements as needed.
  • Assists Operations Director with preparation for presentations.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Experience with programming (Python/R), data analytics, medical data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (w/advanced Excel and database skills).
  • Proficiency with SQL to facilitate retrieving information from enterprise data warehouse.
  • Proficiency with Tableau or equivalent business intelligence tool to develop and maintain complex dashboard visualizations.
  • Competence in statistical analysis.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues and to interpret the acceptability of data results.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to both work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent organization skills, verbal and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as this position involves working with a broad range of personnel.

  • Qualifications
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate degree or higher, preferred; Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience, including extensive experience with statistical model and data analysis (SPSS, SAS, etc).
  • Medical background or experience working with healthcare data preferred
