Data Analysts support efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained. They assist in business and system re-engineering and architecture development. Data Analysts serve as organizational consultants on matters relating to databases and provide expertise across Grounds.
Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual to fill the role of Data Governance Analyst (DGA), in support of data and analytics across the academic division. A unit reporting to the Office of the Provost, IRA provides accurate data, reliable information and reporting, and expert analysis and guidance on use of data in support of the University's teaching, research, and service mission. IRA serves all members of the University's academic community with support for planning, decision-making, policy development, assessment, and compliance requirements. In support of data and analytics across the academic division and through close collaboration with academic and administrative units, IRA is leading the data governance program for the academic division.
Reporting to the Data Governance Director, the DGA serves as a key team member for the ongoing implementation and operation of the data governance program for the academic division. The DGA helps administer and support the data catalog, define, and document data definitions and practices, and develop data governance operational reports and metrics dashboards. The DGA also supports data stewardship, data quality, access control, and data literacy efforts as needed. The Data Governance Analyst works collaboratively across the IRA team and with the wider academic community, specifically with Data Stewards, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and the institutional community of Data & Analytics practitioners. As an IRA team member focused on Data & Analytics, the DGA helps drive the adoption and usage of the data catalog and data governance practices in support of trusted data for decision making and responsible data use.
Responsibilities:
Data Catalog Implementation, Administration and Support (60%)
Serve as catalog administrator and key team member for the ongoing implementation of the data catalog (core platform for data governance)
Assist with ongoing implementation requirements gathering, process definition, and configuration of the data catalog
Provide end user support and resolve issues
Establish a strong bond with the data & analytics community, understand who the data catalog users are, how they use it, and what are the challenges and opportunities
Help design, document, and maintain system processes, playbooks, support documentation, and training to facilitate distributed data governance in alignment with the data governance framework
Special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Data Governance Program Implementation and Operations (40%)
Serve as a key team member in the ongoing implementation and operation of the data governance program including data stewardship, data quality, access control, and data literacy efforts.
Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses of data governance activity and maturity through metrics, reports, and visualizations. May perform data quality monitoring/analysis/measurement and report on data quality based on findings.
Assist with developing and maintaining data governance policies, standards, processes, and guidance.
Support and cultivate data stewardship at multiple levels.
Work with cross-functional areas, IT, Data Stewards, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers to research and resolve issues.
Identify opportunities or problems with data management and/or usage and collaborate with others to resolve issues.
Comply with all security policies and procedures, to ensure that the highest level of system and data confidentiality, integrity and availability is maintained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Solid understanding of data governance and database principles, particularly around metadata documentation, data flow, and data quality
Self-motivated, with high standards for rigorous and detailed work.
Strong technical aptitude and drive for continuous learning
Strong organizational and communication skills required.
Collegiality, intellectual flexibility, and ability to work with professionals in different fields.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of data governance or data analytics experience.
Experience working with data governance, data catalog, and data quality software (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Informatica, Ataccama) preferred.
Structured Query Language (SQL)
Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Qlik Sense, Power BI)
Experience in higher education and in the use of data to support decision making

This position is a 2 year restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. The anticipated salary is $55,000 commensurate with education and experience.
