Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Data Science Innovation Project Leader. The location is open to any Dow site in the United States, with a preference to Midland, MI or sites in Texas. Under the direction of the Environmental IT Manager, the Data Science Innovation Project Leader is responsible for continuously learning emerging technologies in the analytical and digital space that further our reliability and sustainability efforts in the environmental areas.
The Data Science Innovation Project Leader will collaborate with internal experts within Environmental Operations, the Environmental Technology Center, Research & Development, and Manufacturing 4.0 teams along with external vendors and universities to develop and/or evaluate data science technologies. The Data Science Innovation Project Leader will charter opportunities to de-risk emerging technologies, identify application space and articulate the value proposition. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate with a passion for the intersection of environmental problems with data science.
Implements the Global Technology Plan by applying Most Effective Technology (MET), participating in its identification, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
Uses standard global tools for modeling, statistical analysis, and the global work processes.
Provides essential data analysis for determination of MET and problem-solving on a global basis. Participates in development of global process technology strategies. Documents and communicates technology knowledge.
Serves as the Technology center process support contact.
Participates in applying and influencing standardization of MET.
Works with a higher level technology Subject Matter Experts (SME) to define and maintain MET.
Assists in competitive Subject Matter Experts and VBM analysis.
Helps identify gaps and deficiencies in technology.
Understands and uses process modeling tools.
Documents and communicates technology knowledge.
Manages MOC process in the technology.
Ability to work with scientists and engineers with backgrounds such as chemistry, biology, and chemical or environmental engineering; ability to understand needs across multiple domains and businesses on a global scale with ability to define and build relevant solutions.
Proven ability to develop predictive, learning algorithms for scientific applications.
Ability to understand database structures, data quality and validation techniques and proven ability to query data from multiple systems.
Ability to independently or collaboratively develop custom software solutions/processes that contribute to and help foster the growing Dow data integration environment.
Strong computational and data visualization skills to bring together disparate data types in compelling visualization packages that provide end users with the ability to make data-based decisions.
Documents work in internal reports, external publications and/or at conferences.
Brings passion to a team with a strong diversity and inclusion focus.
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a other related Science or Technical discipline is required OR relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking OR Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking.
Programming experience in Microsoft Visual Studio, Python, C#, and/or C++ is required.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
An advanced degree in Mathematics or Data Science preferred.
Ability to quickly learn the basics of other computer languages and interface to programs written in them, if necessary.
Data visualization techniques using various tools (Power BI, JMP, specific packages)
Image and text analytics experience (image classification, text mining, text embedding)
Working experience in advanced data analytics tools (SIMCA, JMP, R, and/or Matlab etc.)
Familiarity with Git / version control systems and T-SQL or other database query language
Azure development Ops experience
Experience with big data
Expertise in advanced statistical analysis
