Job Description

Position Overview:
Responsible for interacting with the business partners and other departments to understand the business objectives and drive solutions that efficiently meet the needs of the business. The focus of this position is to provide solutions that will allow us to turn raw data into actionable insights for better decisions and better business performance.

This includes opportunities to leverage data mining, predictive modeling, simulation and visualization to further enhance insight and internal performance optimization. Often, these problems are not clearly defined - they are discovered and refined through hard work, rapid iteration, communication and insight. Perform Hands-on analysis, design, development and deployment of solutions and the ability to mentor others to drive the development of analytical skill sets throughout the organization. This individual is expected to maintain latest knowledge in software and hardware products or services, trends, select best solutions to meet business requirements, and support the presentation and explanation of design solution to customers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish strong working relationship with Peer teams to review requirements/problem areas and establish the appropriate statistical techniques to apply on available data.
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources.
  • Data Discovery, Data mining, Predictive modeling, simulation and visualization to further enhance insights and drive decisions based on our data.
  • Be able to formulate problems well, prototype solutions, make reasonable assumptions in the face of ill-structured problems, design solutions and analyze results.
  • Assess new technologies as related to solving business problems. Includes conducting POCs to assess quality, functionality and the ability to meet our need both current and future.
  • Develop standard methodologies for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate those to peer teams.
  • Analytics that support Complex Event Processing and Real-time Event Processing in the context of Big Data.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for Data Analytics as it pertains both Predictive and Prescriptive analysis and ensure alignment with industry standard methodologies.

Additional Job Description
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 5-7 years experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Comfort manipulating and analyzing sophisticated, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources, including both structured and unstructured data
  • The ability to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: classification, regression, similarity matching, clustering, co-occurrence grouping, profiling, link prediction, dimension reduction, tensor decomposition and regression, causal inference and etiology
  • Deep knowledge and experience in geographic information system (GIS) such as GIS data representation, coordinate system projection, geostatistics, geocoding and cartography.
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision
  • Ability to communicate sophisticated quantitative analysis in a clear, detailed, and meaningful manner using data visualization techniques
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language such as Python, R, Scala or Java
  • Familiarity with relational databases (NoSQL and SQL)
  • Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.) and Machine Learning pipelines (Spark, DASK, Argo, etc.) a plus
  • Cultivates open, inclusive culture that supports learning and encourages collaboration.

Education:
  • Bachelors or M.S.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • PhD in a relevant technical field or 4+ years of experience in a relevant role
  • Experience in data mining, machine learning, statistical analysis, building predictive models
  • Experience in analyzing Geospatial data and familiar with Geospatial tools (ESRI, ArcGIS, etc.)
