Our Database Admins define, create, and maintain the corporate Database Management Systems (DBMS). Installs, configures, and maintains computer systems and associated peripheral equipment. Maintains operating efficiency and stability, ensures the security and integrity of systems and/or data, and responds to outages and other issues. Performs activities related to the administration and maintenance data, systems, infrastructure, and/or assigned technologies.

This position has ability to be based in hybrid work location and/or work remotely within a mutually acceptable location. #LI-Remote; #LI-Hybrid

Required experience: 4/+ years' related IT experience to include database development, support and maintenance as a DBA in a client-server environment

Required education must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, IT related field of study, or equivalent work experience (two years' relevant work experience is equivalent to one-year college)
  • International Degree equivalency
  • Applicable certification(s) as defined by the leader + 2 years additional experience
  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or IT related field of study, + 2 years additional experience

Knowledge of:
  • DBMS (s) and underlying data and applications
  • Microsoft and Sybase database platforms
  • Performance-tuning
  • Query optimization
  • Security of database platform
  • Database management best practices and techniques
Skills:
  • Sybase ASE Database Administration
  • Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration
  • Database Architecture Design
  • Database performance management
  • Project management / technical lead
  • Logical and physical database design, hands-on data modeling techniques, and development methodology; physical schema design of tables, indexes, data files, and SAN implementations.
  • Design, model, develop and support large DBMSs
Ability to:
  • Understand the overall database environment system architecture and conceptualize and document creative database architecture solutions
  • Analyze, test, and implement physical database design supporting various business applications including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, and operational guidelines
  • Be in on call rotation for 24-hour on-call problem support

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or related field; Sybase and/or MS SQL Server Database Administrator certifications
  • Experience and knowledge of MySQL platform
  • Efficient use of Physical and Virtual hardware resources and SAN implementations.

In this role, you'll:
  • Resolve problems and answer questions related to the DBMS and its associative platform environment interdependencies; contact vendor support when necessary.
  • Perform DBMS performance monitoring and tuning. Monitor performance, identify problems and implement solutions, and ensure the database is running at optimum speed efficiency.
  • Maintain database backup and recovery environment. Respond quickly to refresh data, verify implementation of correct backup strategy, develop recover procedures, and support recovery from loss of data caused by user of system error.
  • Install and upgrade DBMS and related products. Keep DBMS at current release and maintenance levels, install supporting products, and provide current, stable production and development environments.
  • Reorganize database structures as needed. Automate procedures at regular intervals, use tools to reorganize or defrag database table spaces, tables, and indexes. Provide application development staff optimal development environment with current data.
  • Provide assistance in database design as needed. Research and recommend optimal design criteria, publish standards and work with development staff, standardize environment, and improve efficiency.
  • Capacity planning and reporting: Monitor file system space, database allocation, etc.; verify efficient use of disk storage, reclaim dead space, optimize space allocation, and avoid out-of-space conditions.
  • Provide the appropriate tools, procedures, and facilities for creating and maintaining the entity data enterprise model.
  • Produce database normalization schemas, logical to physical database mapping, and data table parameters.
  • Develop rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
  • Review overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations.
  • Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of DBA tools and new DBMS technologies.
  • Perform change management, impact analyses, and research products, configure software, and establish standards and procedures that support the Company's database environment needs.
  • Provide Application-oriented database administration and technical support for the various development, training, testing, and production requirements of relational database environments.
  • Define and develop database documentation and standards.
  • Conduct application transaction volume and traffic analysis, and interpret impact on database and network performance.
  • Ensure data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for physical databases are met through formulations and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards related to database management.
  • Ensure solutions meet business objectives and establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in IT's knowledge of and concern for users' business needs.
  • Perform and/or direct quality control and security audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper usage of data in tables and various support tools, such as database dictionaries.
  • Review database design and integration of client/servers systems and make recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements.
  • Provide appropriate consulting, interfacing, and training for information systems users. Formulate policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitor transaction activity and utilization.
  • Establish and maintain security and integrity controls. May provide back up to Security Administration, maintaining new and current users, monitoring security reports, and providing other security administration support.
