Job Info

The University of Evansville (UE) invites nominations, expressions of interest, and applications for the position of Dean of the William L Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences.

The University of Evansville is a private, comprehensive university with a foundation in the arts and sciences as well as professional programs where thousands of students have found their home, discovered their passions, and pursued success around the world. Annual enrollment is approximately 2,500. The University has a rich tradition of academic excellence and has been recognized across the country and globe. In addition to a commitment of strong academics, the University community embraces the responsibility it has to make its communities a better place. This is evident through the University's designation as an Ashoka Changemaker campus, one of fewer than 50 universities in the world recognized for making social innovation and changemaking in higher education a priority and representing a vision of what education and universities can be.

The William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences is named after life trustee and devoted friend of the university, the late Dr. William L. Ridgway. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the academic units at the University. It is home to 13 departments including archaeology; art; biology; chemistry; communication; English and creative writing; foreign languages and cultures; history, politics, and social change; mathematics; music conservatory; physics; psychology and behavioral sciences; and theater. Additionally, the college offers 11 interdisciplinary programs and consists of more than 80 full-time faculty, 20 staff, and 750 students.

The Dean of the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences oversees one of the three colleges at the University of Evansville and reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The dean oversees all aspects of teaching, scholarship, and institutional service, and meets regularly with the other Deans and the Provost to develop and implement academic priorities for the entire university. The incoming dean will establish a vision for the college and demonstrate support for a diverse collection of disciplines. Additionally, the dean will be responsible for promoting a campus culture grounded in trust, respect, transparency, communication, and collaboration as well as developing an environment supportive of student success.

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in a discipline relevant to the academic programs in the William L. Ridgway College of Arts and Sciences and who is committed to academic excellence and faculty development. Similar to expectations for dean colleagues at the University, the ideal candidate will have a proven record of teaching, scholarship, and service as well as potential for success in fundraising and grant activity within a small liberal arts university environment. The next dean will share a deep commitment and ability to implement the University mission, "to empower each student to think critically, act bravely, serve responsibly, and live meaningfully in a changing world."
