The Department of Neurology Epilepsy Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking to hire an EMU Electroneurodiagnostic Supervising Technologist to direct the clinical operations of the Department of Neurology, Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), adult and pediatric, to ensure quality standards and patient satisfaction.

The Level 4 Epilepsy Center at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics provides the highest level of epilepsy care available in the United States, treating epilepsy patients from across the Midwest. ICEP also serves as a resource for neurologists and other neuroscientists from around the country, offering second opinions and expert advice.

Job Duties/Responsibilities to include:

  • Assure clinical competency in expertise in all areas of specialization, assign technical staff, and coordinate Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit activities.
  • Ensure JCAHO compliance and participate in visits of the EMU.
  • Formulate and implement guidelines to facilitate the scheduling of patients.
  • Monitor and maintain developments in the field of Epilepsy Medicine initiating new services to maintain quality standards and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance program to ensure compliance with applicable state and national agencies.
  • Collaborate/communicate with professional and technical staff, healthcare providers, and students to provide exceptional services to patients.
  • Assist with technical aspects of multiple research projects. Review and prepare data for physician review.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure data retrieval and storage.
  • Analyze equipment and software issues and refer as appropriate.
  • Attend monthly unit council meetings to review Press Ganey results and develop plans to improve patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with administration in the preparation and monitoring of capital and operational budgets.
  • Hire and manage technical and clerical staff, assuring they are compliant with UI policies. Manage staff ELMS records and leave requests. Complete annual performance appraisals, competency assessments, and assists staff with meeting performance goals.
  • Will routinely monitor current trends in epilepsy monitoring and project areas of growth. Participate in the expansion of technical services as needed.
  • Will write and edit policies and procedures pertaining to Epilepsy Monitoring within the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
  • Ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs. Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
  • Clinical oversight is received from the Director, Epilepsy Division and the Medical Director of the Inpatient Services. Functional and administrative oversight is received from the APP Lead, Clinical Director, or designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
  • Supervision is exercised over all support staff, Electroneurodiagnostic technologists, Electroneurodiagnostic technicians, and students.
Monday - Friday, additional hours may be needed
100% Time

EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Must have graduated from an accredited (CoA) Electroneurodiagnostic technology program.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
  • Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET), or other applicable nationally recognized certifying agency is required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-5 years' experience involving administrative and functional supervision in Epilepsy, EEG or EMG Monitoring Unit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling staff, organizing workloads, and managing patients. Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with patient and staff education.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs.
  • Experience with evidence based practice or research utilization.
  • Enthusiasm for career and professional development.
