COVID VACCINATION NOTICE: Under the COVID-19 mandate issued by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment on August 2, 2021, current MHCD personnel must be fully vaccinated, or be approved for exemption, no later than September 30, 2021. "Fully vaccinated" means two weeks (14 days) after receiving the final dose of vaccine. The "final dose" is the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or the single dose of a one dose vaccine (J&J).

NEW HIRE SALARY RANGE: $54,000 - $62,000/year

POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Officer for Philanthropy will work with the Director of Philanthropy on implementing strategies to identify, cultivate and sustain individual multi -year donors as well as corporate and foundation donors. This individual will actively engage in working to diversify support for the Mental Health Center of Denver through engagement of Denver's diverse philanthropic communities and through a variety of established and innovative approaches. Promote, respect and value the principles of the organization: well-being, recovery and resiliency-focused care; diversity and inclusiveness, and trauma-informed services and environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Program/Internal Relations.

  • Interface and engage program staff within the organization to develop and enhance support for fundraising opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Engagement & Communications staff to promote fundraising/marketing efforts.

Individual Donors
  • Research, identify, and cultivate new donors in consultation with the Director of Philanthropy. Among the tools to aid the process will be donor research software and the organization's customer relations system (CRM).
  • Help steward current and potential individual donors through personal contact and follow-up.

Corporate Donors
  • Research and identify corporate donors with the intent of determining their potential for being event sponsors or corporate grantors.
  • Share information on potential corporate grantors with the Director of Philanthropy and Philanthropy Officer for Grants and Corporate Opportunities.
  • Provide support in soliciting sponsorships for events.
  • Collaboration with members of the Community Relations & Public Policy team, as indicated by specific opportunities.

Foundation Donors
  • Research and identify potential foundation foundation funders.
  • Determine if the foundation has an interest in mental health, whether the organization meets its guidelines, or has been previously funded.
  • Share information on potential foundation funders with the Director of Philanthropy and Philanthropy Officer for Grants and Corporate Opportunities.

Annual Fundralslng Event(s)
  • Help identify and recruit corporate and foundation sponsors for the event.
  • Support development of invitation list.
  • Help design and implement guest recruitment plan.
  • Assure that attendees are acknowledged and thanked for their attendance and gifts.
  • Work with Communications staff to promote fundraising efforts through social media.

Donor Recognition
  • Support the Director of Philanthropy in creating, writing, and proofing the quarterly Report to the Community and special Impact Partners edition.
  • Monitor and support updates to donor recognition systems including plaques, walls, videos, and publications.
  • Help design and manage implementation of new donor recognition systems including affinity groups and giving circles.

Planned Giving
  • Support Director of Philanthropy in implementing planned giving programs and options.

Workplace Giving
  • Increase outreach to staff members regarding workplace giving, including, but not limited to the Employee Hardship Fund.
  • Participate in workplace giving trainings and speaking opportunities in cooperation with Community Health Charities, Mile High United Way, and others.

Colorado Gives Day
  • Manage Colorado Gives Day promotion to current and potential donors.
  • Update and maintain Coloradogives.org presence.
  • Serve as primary Colorado Gives Day contact.

Other Duties as Assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in non-profit organizations, fundraising, marketing & communications, philanthropy, human services or similar field

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years working within a non-profit, human services, or mental health services organization or agency

SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • A strong commitment to mission of the organization's goals, mission, vision, and values
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional ethics of fundraising
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong public
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with people from all walks of life from both inside and outside the organization
  • Expertise in information management software including MS Word, MS
  • Advanced understanding of donor management and event planning software or CRM systems.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills - proactive in setting and foreseeing deadlines for completing tasks and projects
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of constituent information.
  • Ability to engage with diverse individuals and groups
  • Comfortable working in-person and remotely - engaging in video conference communications, including with supervisor and other team members
  • Operate office machines such as computers - laptop and/or tablets, printer/scanner/facsimilet/copier, telephone, and other similar electronics.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers - laptop/tablet, calculators, printer/copier/scanner/facsimile machines, telephone, and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to give, receive, and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials, articulate goals and action plans, meet goals and deadlines. Must be able to work with and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call hours.
