The Role:

This role is an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of the talent engine fueling a high growth organization that has rapidly developed and commercialized Spikevax. Moderna is looking for a Director Cost Accounting to further build and support tactical execution of a high functioning Cost Accounting team. In this position you will coordinate cost accounting month-end close processes, financial reporting and physical inventory processes. This is a highly visible role in our organization, with frequent exposure to the Finance LT and CMC LT. This position will be located in Norwood, MA.

Here's What You'll Do:

Moderna is looking for a Director who will be responsible for our Cost Accounting month-end and reporting processes. This role will support and lead continuous improvement and scale up of our financial processes to support COGS accounting and reporting for commercialized products in a manner that supports future platform growth.

  • Execute and oversee all related journal entries and reconciliations for Cost of Goods and inventory accounting/reporting. Provide guidance and direction for non-recurring one-off transactions as needed. Ensure internal controls and SOX controls are maintained, and support management reporting and variance /flux reporting
  • Ensure appropriate recording and reconciliation of Moderna owned inventories at CMOs in strong collaboration with the supply chain team
  • Coordinate and oversee quarterly/annual physical inventories and cycle counts across all sites
  • Lead evaluation of Excess and Obsolescence and other inventory reserves
  • Support the Senior Director of Cost Accounting in coaching and communication across a team of cost accounting professionals
  • Lead standard costing for COGS as the Subject Matter Expert/Coach
  • Drive and continuously seek to improve processes and reduce manual interfaces where feasible
  • Prepare for and participate in external audit reviews

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • 10+ years' experience in a finance/accounting department, public accounting firm or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of direct hands-on cost accounting experience
  • Proficient in the use of SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Experience in a global manufacturing/cost accounting setup
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to form effective relationships throughout the organization and communicate complex analytical models/financial concepts in a synthesized and concise manner
  • Strong analytical thinker, curious mindset and aspiration to overachieve
  • Proven track record of managing high performing teams
