The Opportunity: Director, Environmental Health and Safety

Why This Role Is Important

As a member of the iCare management team reporting to the Vice President, Real Estate and Innovation, the Director Environmental Health and Safety will provide oversight and leadership for environmental health and safety (EH&S) for ambulatory and urgent care facilities across the New England area. This role will coordinate and oversee internal, and vendor provided services at over 15 locations in and around the Greater Boston area and will have the unique opportunity to participate in the development of EH&S operations at several new ambulatory sites that will include multi-specialty clinics, major imaging and ambulatory surgery services. This role will collaborate with environmental health and safety subject matter experts at other Mass General Brigham entities as needed. As the number of Urgent Care and Integrated Care sites grows, this director will establish an internal team to supplement vendor provided services.

Qualifications
About You
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred in engineering, in a relevant scientific discipline, or in environmental / occupational health and safety.
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience managing a professional staff in a demanding work environment that includes high-level technical and management commitments.
  • Experience in multi-site multi-specialty outpatient centers (including urgent care, primary care, surgery, and imaging) strongly preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accreditation processes and regulatory agencies' requirements
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial and other data
  • Candidate must have a broad knowledge of TJC and AAAHC standards, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, CMS' EOC, FGI and other government, state, and local regulatory agencies standards
  • Highly motivated and proactive with ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Possesses and maintains a broad and current understanding of scientific disciplines relevant to environmental health
  • Possesses and maintains a broad and current understanding of environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of management strategies and staff assessment techniques.
  • Must be able to interact throughout the organization to build strong and functional working relationships. Displays strong interpersonal skills and handles conflict situations tactfully and constructively.
  • Must communicate effectively at all organizational levels in writing and verbally. Must possess ability to present to large and small groups and to utilize a variety of communication media.
  • Must communicate effectively with external organizations and the public at-large to present an accurate and positive image of the organization.
  • Must understand strategies for training, development, and support of departmental staff.
  • Budgets effectively and maintains strong fiscal performance.
  • Interfaces constructively with outside regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Demonstrable experience in cross-disciplinary collaboration with clinical, quality and safety stakeholders
  • Strong communication and relationship skills to operate in a matrixed environment
  • Organizational skill to oversee and maintain documentation
Preferred Experience We Hope You Have
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or an equivalent, is desirable
