The Role:

Moderna is seeking a passionate, rigorous scientist and proven leader to lead the Formulation Discovery team and help evolve the Moderna delivery platform to enable growth of our therapeutic pipeline. The Director of Formulation Discovery will be responsible for attracting, developing and retaining top talent. She/he/they will foster a team environment where individuals recognize the importance of working collaboratively while feeling safe to challenge the science and drive innovation. As a member of the Platform Delivery Leadership team, she/he/they will work along with the other research leaders to develop delivery discovery strategies and drive implementation and execution. In partnering with cross-functional leaders in the organization, such as with the Therapeutic Areas and Technical Development, the candidate will define the critical needs and priorities for inventing and sustaining robust delivery technologies for discovery pipeline success.

Here's What You'll Do:

• Build and develop a team of high performing scientists who value working in a diverse and fast paced environment
  
• Define formulation strategy, prioritize resources, and partner with cross-functional Platform leadership to steer and execute early and late-stage delivery programs
  
• Accelerate the ability of teams to move forward by developing and implementing solutions that overcome organizational or scientific inefficiencies and hindrances
  
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the drug delivery field and identify potential external collaborators
  
• Collaborate with the Therapeutic Areas to ensure formulation support for exploratory programs
  
• Collaborate with Technical Development to ensure alignment and maintain line-of-sight to large-scale manufacture of novel delivery systems
  
• Develop, implement, and expand automated processes to improve productivity and reach of our discovery capabilities
  
• Communicate overall strategy and project updates to Moderna senior leaders, external advisors, and industry partners
  

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:

• Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field with 10+ years of industry experience in a pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology environment
  
• Experience leading and managing teams in a highly matrixed organization
  
• Track record of progressing discovery innovations into clinical development
  
• Experience in formulation discovery, biotechnology/pharmaceutical development, and delivery of novel drug modalities
  
• Proficiency in fundamentals of drug development, including pharmacology and DMPK
  
• Ability to effectively collaborate in a cross-functional matrix environment
  
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including a strong publication track record
  
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment
