502132 - Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Development, the Director of Athletic Development is responsible for managing a major and leadership annual giving portfolio and is expected to operate with a high level of independence and decision making capabilities and judgement. The key focus of this role will be in two areas. 1.) Major and leadership annual giving fundraising. Specifically, managing a portfolio, soliciting all donors and prospects for an annual gift and expanding Athletics pipeline. This position will be expected to conduct a minimum of 11-14 meetings per month. 2.) This position will lead athletics parent giving, including strategy implementation to increase giving of parents of student-athletes, which reached a record high in FY22.

This position will solicit financial contributions within and outside the Greater Richmond area to support the University of Richmond Athletics Department and will require regular travel for donor visits, Athletics events and home and away games.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major and annual leadership gift fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-125 prospects and actively cultivate, solicit and steward
  • Plan and execute personal visits with prospects and donors, as well as visits with Director of Athletics and Associate Athletic Director for Development to cultivate and solicit annual leadership gifts
  • Contribute to the development of a strong prospect pipeline through identification, validation, and cultivation efforts
  • Develop strategic relationships among athletic department staff, University Advancement, coaches, and campus colleagues that result in effective partnerships
  • Lead athletics parent giving - Strategically implement a plan to solicit, cultivate, and steward parents of current student-athletes
Additional responsibilities
  • Attend select development meetings and divisional activities
  • Maintain up-to-date contact and proposal records in the donor database
  • Ensure compliance with prospect management guidelines for data entry and metric tracking
  • Attend select University and Athletic events, including home and away athletic contests
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, along with the ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, in conjunction with comfort level of working in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple projects required
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment
  • Personal solicitation experience required
  • Skill in use of personal computers, standard office software applications, and fundraising software, with an understanding of database management
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of three or more years experience in fundraising, preferably in higher education, with a proven track record of success
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; some travel, nights & weekends
